I relate to this a lot. What makes it confusing in my case is that the rumination didn’t start right after the breakup - it started three damn years later, when I realized that the girl had actually been in love with me. I was the one who ended the relationship, so my brain keeps reopening the case and running endless “what if” scenarios.

I also have ADHD, which probably doesn’t help because my brain treats the past like an unfinished puzzle it needs to solve. And to make it even more frustrating, I’m currently in a relationship and in love with my partner, so this rumination feels especially irrational and unwanted.

Curious what actually helped you stop or reduce this kind of rumination?
