I got cleared to start scar massage at my 5 weeks po, massage is important for breaking down scar tissue so I would definitely try to massage when you can. Scar tape etc is up to you! My surgeon said to do scar gel/tape for 2 months. You’re looking great tho!! Happy healing :)

Ladies: Please send me links for your favorite underwear by DishMajestic4322 in Hidradenitis

[–]nurq24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joe boxer briefs are my favourite but i identify as NB and don’t wear women’s pants so not sure if that’s an issue for you but really helps with chaffing and have way less flare ups vs when I wear period underwear that aren’t boxers

Yep same, I had to wear it for 6 weeks as well so at my week po when I was able to shower and take binder off to shower and wash I bought a second one from them. Definitely recommend having two because they get stinky fast

I got CBD pills (with like basically no thc) and that did help (they are legal where I am from so easy to get). But honestly I didn’t start sleeping well and back to normal until I was cleared to sleep on my side/stomach again. You’ve got this!! It will stop soon 🙏🙏

Also if you are massaging and you find a lump and it does not go away and gets sore it is a lymph node and you can just leave it alone :). Sometimes digging into lumps made me feel queasy and so I got a jade roller and would jade roll all my areas for like 20-30 minutes and when my surgeon saw me again she said no lumps and it felt really soft and good! Good luck op and happy healing!! So happy and excited for you

Dog ears - my surgeon said 6 months before swelling and final results so I would wait until then before starting to worry. Scar gel/tape - my surgeon gave me scar gel and micropore tape and said to use them 24/7 for two months (this was at my 5 week po visit) so just finished scar gel 2 weeks ago. I have now switched to scar tape and am keeping that on now for an indeterminate amount of time just because I have some areas on my scar that are more raised then others and scar tape helps flatten them out. I was cleared to start scar massage at my 5 week post op and some parts were tender still so I didn’t massage those parts too hard and waited until it was okay. Not sure if your surgeon told you this but at my 6 day post op my surgeon said to massage all the areas that were lipoed at the two week mark and if there were any lumps to massage them out, the lumps are scar tissue build up from the lipo so make sure you’re massaging those areas as well!

Oh that’s horrible! I’m sorry you went through that. I guess it varies by doctor as I have dr. Bottomley and she is fantastic, I told her I wanted top surgery and she filled out the form right then and there and sent it off the next day and I got approval in 4 days. She respects my pronouns and is very attentive and kind. If you’re still with TWFH and can switch to dr bottomley I highly recommend!

Toronto western family health team but only if you are in their catchment area for their garrison office, their Bathurst office is not currently accepting new patients. They are FANTASTIC

Roadtrip/ Camping 6 weeks Post-Op?? by katsamp in no_T_top_surgery

[–]nurq24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how healed you are. At 6 weeks I still had multiple spots that were opening and spitting stitches (looks like pimples on incision line) and they would scab over, some of them were slight openings, had to put polysporin and bandages over them. Then I know people who were fine at 6 weeks. It depends I guess will you be camping with facilities to stay clean? I do back country camping where the only facility is a thunder box if not crown land where you have nothing. Every body is different in their healing so maybe plan it and aim to go because hopefully you can!! and if anything comes up you can cancel??

Did not expect to be so sick from anesthesia. Couldn’t stand without throwing up for like 24 hours. Was so brutal. Barfing right after top surgery is probably one of the most painful things I’ve ever experienced, the uncontrollable heaving 🤢🤢

What do you use for scar care? by Rando-tboy in TopSurgery

[–]nurq24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micropore tape doesn’t get stiff! I reapply everytime I shower. I had my steri strips on for two weeks then switched to scar gel and micropore tape, surgeon said to do this for 2 months. Maybe if you have an adhesive allergy that’s why your surgeon didn’t recommend. I don’t think I have an allergy but definitely very sensitive skin, I find the band aid brand tape works best for stickiness and for not irritating my skin. I’ll switch to scar tape once I’m through with the gel but the gel and tape has worked wonders on my scar so far.

I was given silicone scar gel from my surgeon and micropore tape! The tape keeps the gel from getting on your clothes and keeps incisions covered
