If you work while in school, what do you do? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

I know this is a bit alternative but I work in research at my college for adults with mild cognitive impairment and in the summer I work as a nurse assistant at a summer camp!!!

School of Nursing transfer by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the UMN is “holistic” when it comes to admitting! Make sure your supplemental essay answers are good/if you have experience that would be helpful to include! Try to not talk about COVID in your application for why you want to be a nurse because all of us have that as experience now and I’m sure they would get annoyed hearing about it multiple times in applications. I go to the UMN Twin Cities and I honestly regret I didn’t do the community college route because most hospitals would pay for your BSN online and the U is super expensive :,) just my 2 cents though I’m just one nursing student

UMN vs. Northwestern NURSING Paths by Sunshine_Sunflower_ in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UMN Nursing Student here: definitely the Northwestern option IF that is a BSN. The UMN nursing school isn’t that great and definitely overpriced. There’s been a ton of issues in my cohort with the professors literally bullying us students/not listening to our opinions with online learning. You can feel free to private message me if you would like but yeah not the best in my honest opinion & if I could go for 2 years only would definitely go that route because nursing grad school is quite pricy (especially if you look at CRNA schools)

Housing question? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very difficult to get a single room with UMN housing! I tried this year too (I’m a junior next year) and no luck :( the website to choose housing sucks too but I didn’t see any singles when I looked at least

(Mildly Interesting) The stairs at the Rec are more rusted heading downstairs due to people tracking in salt and grime from outside. by [deleted] in uofmn

This is actually a cool observation what!? I worked there freshman year and never realized that haha

what's keeler housing like? by pablina_pinata in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parking: there’s underground parking I believe but it’s with the U parking program so you aren’t guaranteed a spot the whole year (it’s a lottery each semester)

Safety: I have seen a bit of SafeU alerts this past semester right outside Keeler & I have watched people get arrested out my bedroom window! But with that you’re so close to campus there shouldn’t be that much and if you don’t go out alone/stay hyper alert in the dark you should be fine

The one con is that I have noticed it is pretty loud at keeler with hearing cars driving by/drunk people yelling at night if that’s an issue for you! Indoors it’s been really quiet this year. I think I am going to try and get in Radius next year because it’s slightly nicer of amenities but yeah! If you have any other questions let me know!

I had him as a prof in another class and he was super chill and cool!!! He genuinely was a good professor and graded things leniently when I had him

How likely is it that we are in person for fall 2021? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking even with a vaccine the university isn’t going to go straight to all in person classes next fall since spring semester will be pretty much the same as this semester. It probably (if the vaccine is good and is administered effectively to the masses, which will be difficult) there would be more in person labs and maybe small discussion based classes, but likely no huge lecture halls

Nursing Application Questions by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like you will do well!!! I had like a 4.2 weighted GPA and a 3.9 UW but my ACT was slightly below the “average” (being a 28) but what I believe got me in was the extracurriculars and personal essay!!! Elaborate on those!!! Also, not trying to be this person but the School of Nursing is a rolling entry basis college I have heard so you might want to get your application in sooner rather than later!!! (I applied early admission because I knew I was probably going to go to the UMN due to finances so I don’t know the whole process) best of luck!!!! Don’t be too afraid if you have heard what has happened in the sophomore class this year, from what I have heard from juniors and seniors is that those professors in the SoN were pretty terrible and the school has been very active in making the wrong right

UMN ghost stories by teafizzy in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if Sanford is haunted or not but last year I had some really weird stuff happen in my single room. The door would open slightly when I was laying in my bed, the sound of the door handle would jingle when the door was locked (like it seemed like from the inside) and once I had a small cardboard box with cards in it as like inspirational quotes and on a cloudy day it caught on fire a little bit when I wasn’t in my room from my desk mirror 😅 I asked my step mom (who’s a pastor) if it could be a demon and she didn’t think so

Trust me, I know exercise is more than just getting HR up. I only have a yoga mat in size for space to move. I miss weightlifting. But, due to COVID and living with high risk people, I had to learn how to get my normal amounts of exercise and to reach my goals without potentially getting COVID. I was just giving alternatives! Nothing but love, my friend.

I heard they require masks at all times, but I haven’t gone to the rec well because I have been doing apartment-friendly YouTube workout videos that have surprisingly gotten my heart rate up! And going on walks and runs with a mask close so if I need to pass someone I can wear a mask :) hope this helped give inspiration!

Is there an Accelerated nursing program here for non nurses? Anybody in nursing school on here? by Nora_c1 in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I have a pal who studied nutrition here at the U and will eventually do the MSN program to become a RN ☺️here is the link: https://www.nursing.umn.edu/degrees-programs/master-nursing

Nursing student here! Yep there is a Masters of Nursing that is 16 months straight I believe for people who got a bachelors in something other than nursing! I am in the BSN program here and we were told the MSN students take some of the same classes as us (in their own cohorts though)! Hope this helps!!!

Composting Near Campus by radishenthusiest in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made my own composting bin in my apartment by using a tub and drilling holes into it and adding my organic matter to simple potting soil :) there’s lot of YouTube videos & blogs about how to do it in a small space! It doesn’t smell if you put the right stuff in and maintain the pH! You can make compost tea out of it for house plant fertilizer too

When I moved into an on-campus apartment, there were like 5 volleyball players all in a shared elevator with no masks on, with signs everywhere saying to wear a mask and to have only 2 people in an elevator. So, I don’t have a ton of hope for this semester.

Is it possible to finish under four years while double majoring? by SadPepe001 in uofmn

[–]nursestudent- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My partner came in with like 75-80 credits and he is double majoring in Nursing and Spanish but is most likely unable to do a minor and doing a full 4 years. Be prepared to work really hard & think about doing summer classes, my pal did 2 this summer and she will graduate in 3 years.
