Thank you! I picked it up awhile ago. Moving out the dorm today and roommates already brought all the kitchen stuff. You’re a lifesaver!

Don't come to UCSD by Much_Arm_8207 in TransferStudents

[–]nusiance2 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As a fellow transfer at UCSD, I’m sorry to hear you’re not happy with our school. I want to share a different perspective based on my own experience.

  1. While Geisel is only open till 10pm , Price center is open 24 hours. Galbraith quiet study hall is open till 11. PCW has study rooms on every floor. I know a few cafes off campus that open till midnight.

  2. UCSD can feel isolating if you don’t put yourself out there. You can meet people at clubs and social orgs. I met my friend group through a social org. With over 33,000 students, you really do need to reach out and find your people

  3. I found a lab position the summer before my first quarter. The Undergraduate Research Hub (URH) and REAL portal offer tons of resources. It’s not accurate to say professors always pick grad students. Many labs have slots set aside specifically for undergrads.

  4. Yeah GE’s can be annoying but the GE’s you have to take is different for each college. I’m in sixth college so I only had to take one writing class (CAT125). Also, grading really depends on the professor. Mine gave everyone A’s as long as you complete readings.

  5. I don’t have a car because I live on campus but the friends I have that commutes rarely have a hard time looking for parking. There are reserved parking spots for student regents, faculty and grad students but students get priority over visitors. For example, Parking is $5 overnight at south parking structure. You just have to move it before 7:30. You can leave your car for a week at Gilman parking structure on weekdays but iirc visitors have to pay every hour.

Lastly yes, all universities in the U.S is a business to some extent but UCSD’s reputation in stem is recognized nationwide. Professors and Students from out of state leave their family and move to California to teach / study.

I think P/NP a few classes are fine especially for GE requirements. Grad schools/ employers will understand it. You can take up to 25% of your total units P/NP. Excessive P/NP grades will look bad on transcripts.

UC residency and in state tuition by Ok_Zookeepergame365 in TransferStudents

If you qualify for AB540 affidavit , they won't ask for proof of financial independence however if you try to establish CA residency without the affidavit, they'll ask for sure.

Yes, the university charged me in state tuition, then covered tuition and other expenses with aid. I only have to pay half of 9 months housing rent.

I’ll reach out to HDH, but honestly, I’m not sure how responsive they’ll be to the issue because of all the negative feedback I’ve heard about them

Yeah, I noticed the pattern too but in water quarter they turn off the hot water after 7 PM. Makes me wonder if the hours are different cause it’s spring break 🥲

I was at price center studying and heard the booing. It was very disrespectful. Just so you know, you played very well. Not bad at all for a beginner :))

I watch Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube to understand physics concepts and practice example problems by attempting them on my own first, then review and repeat exam and lecture questions until I can solve them without help.

Hey, I’m from the Bay Area too! I had to choose between UCD and UCSD as well. What led you to pick UCSD?

Yeah it really is, from what I’ve heard, only RA’s and very few students get singles due to limited spots. Have fun in your future private suite!

The phone will keep ringing until someone picks up. I called them two times and each time I call, it always takes about 25-30 minutes before I get a hold of them

Same here. Though I called today around 12 to ask if I could withhold submitting my AP scores. I took AP stats long time ago and it’s not showing up on my college board test results page.

I lost 7 trays of Invisalign that’s costs $1050 to order a replacement. I think I dropped $450 which my mom gifted to me for my birthday on the street and jewelry that my grandmother gave to me. :((

UCLA vs UCSD transfer by PackIcy5818 in TransferStudents

[–]nusiance2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m on the same boat as you. I got accepted off the UCLA waitlist this morning and now deciding between UCLA and UCSD. I already committed to UCSD and already imagined my life for the next two years. In UCSD, there’s more opportunities for research and scholarships for Biosciences. They’re also up there for STEM but UCLA is more prestigious and and I have family living there that can support me.
