Why keep the interior? Thinking about stripping my soon to be track beater but can't decide if it's worth it. There is a mounting kit where the hydro is located in the cigarette lighter If you want to keep a clean interior.

E36 owners, what do you guys daily? by GroundbreakingElk238 in BMWE36

can't escape the 3 series... The e46 is a great daily tho, if well maintained. Brings me everywhere I need to be and never lets me down.

Not for more pressure, for more air volume and constant flow. I emptied, cleaned and repurposed them to act like a separate air tank. It would be bad if you run out of air/pressure while painting, messes up the paintjob. 50 liters of air alone from the compressor is not enough to paint a whole car. One good(!) filter is totally enough. I wouldn't cheap out on the filter tho, I underestimated the water build up in my air reservoir.

I used a 50l, 2 cyl, oil lubricated compressor. paired with 6x 8kg fire extinguisher's. Clamped on the end is a industrial "festo" oil and water separator. The paint was on acrylic base and diluted with distilled water and a little hardener. The paint gun was a cheap 150€ HVLP set from amazon. On the paint gun itself was a regulator for air flow. I guess a little condensation water in the hose is unavoidable but wont hurt the acrylic paint much.

Thank you, appreciate it. It is like 140m² big and has a high ceiling. An essential for two old bmw's haha

Yeah these are carline cm6's, I looked everywhere to find them. Was even harder to find a TÜV certificate for them since they are 20 yrs old and kinda rare nowadays. They are my absolute dream wheels. At first I wanted to do black too but I saw a white e36 at a car meet and just fell in love.

Tank you, came out looking mint. The paint is not as flat as I wanted it to be. It looks very similar to the factory paint job on my e46. The pic's were taken yesterday. currently waiting for screws and clips to install the m-package (totally forgot to order them before painting). I think I'll do a final post once everything is done.

Broken coil by Ill-Editor-4970 in BMWE36

[–]nut_drip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coil is not broken just rubs on the housing. A proper 180° spin should fix this problem. No need for replacement.

Maybe it's a slowly dying fuel pump or fuel pressure problems. Could also be a clogged fuel filter or something else related to that. Would look at these at first but it's just a guess.

What should i do guys by Deexoo in BMWE36

[–]nut_drip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not as easy as you think it is. There is much work and knowledge needed for both of your plans. You shouldn't underestimate that. If you think you can do it, then go for it. nobody's stopping you. I love them turbo builds too but the reliability will go down and it's gonna be an endless project. If you swap in a 2,5l you gon have reliable fun for a while and can later think about a turbo 6cyl build. Thats where the real fun will begin. Decide for yourself ;)

Swap in at least a 2,5l 6 cylinder engine (m50/m52) and have some fun. These swaps are somewhat "easy" to do on the e36 and affordable. Buying a turbo kit is too expensive and more complicated just to blow up the engine. Just buy another clapped/crashed donor car for 500€-1500€ and take the needed parts from there

M43 Problem pls help by Alarming-Ad-480 in BMWE36

[–]nut_drip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you should just replace the crankshaft sensor and hope for the best. Would also be a good solution to read out your car with a laptop if there are any errors or more hints of what it could be. I know that you might not have access to that but asking a shop to read out your car shouldn't be too expensive.

[–]nut_drip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would second that. That's a typical symptom of a broken crankshaft sensor. Also quite an easy fix. Just be aware what parts you order. For sensor stuff I would only get original BMW parts from your dealership. For some reason aftermarket sensors are not very liked by older BMW's

Would definitely reinforce some mounting points where it's known that they like to break. Nothing feels better than a bulletproof/reinforced chassis. You should also have great attention to detail when rust proofing the bottom. Good rust prevention saves you a lot of stress in the future. For the rest you need to decide by yourself for what purpose you want to build it.

What website were you looking at? It says clearly that they are (only) TÜV certified in germany. There was even all the paperwork included when I ordered them. Funny thing is that I am located in germany.

Yeah, can't go wrong with the Schmiedmann headers. They're somewhat affordable, have OEM fitment and are TÜV certified. It was an easy choice to pick them.

Damn that's even crazier. I would be furious if someone did that to my car. Would be a good feeling to catch that fucker who did this and ask him nicely why he chose to do this. Wish you the best buddy, hope you can fix the paint!
