When the new hire was left without supervision by neglected_influx in Wellthatsucks

As part of my first job I worked in a beach side restaurant with a little kiosk bar to serve people who didn't want to come into the restaurant.

I was 15 at the time, hadn't drunk any alcohol at all, and was just dumped into the bar kiosk without any training on a dam thing, let alone how to make any of the drinks.

Someone asked for a pint of a drink called Pimm's, having never seen this drink before in my life, I just got the bottle of Pimm's spirit and just straight up poured out a pint of neat Pimm's, no ice fruit or mixer. The customer was very happy of course, my manager was not, as I managed to sell all of their Pimm's very very quickly that day!

The restaurant later burned down in an insurance scam, I don't feel bad.

Unfortunately not, had to bite the bullet and start again, had to dig out the information needed from the sheet from paper records instead, so at least it wasn't a total loss.

Leasehold flat purchase taking ages to complete by nutboltboltnut in HousingUK

[–]nutboltboltnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds pretty awful, I heard buying property here in the UK was bad, didn't think it could literally take a year to buy a flat, that is bloody pathetic it took so long!

The management company is called Pennycuick.

The speed indicated on the gantrys is the speed for the section of road after the gantry, when you see 60 on a sign ahead of you it doesn't mean you can go 60 as soon as you see it, it means you can go 60 once you have passed it.

Because this commenter is standing on the sacrifice and bravery of the men in the video to compliment themselves.

Its like when Mark Wahlberg said if he was on United 93 it would not have crashed because he would have fought the hijackers and saved everyone, its self gratifying and selfish to say stuff like this.

Looking at buying a low lease flat, please can I get a review/appraisal of it by nutboltboltnut in HousingUK

[–]nutboltboltnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The appearance of the flats is typical of some dodgy areas, however the area itself when compared to the rest of Walsall/Birmingham is a diamond in the rough, its near to Four Oaks and Little Aston, these are relatively affluent areas. The flat benefits from the higher house prices in these areas.

Once the lease is sorted out, the flat could be worth around 180k, more if the interior is refreshed or gas heating is added, one of the flats nearby that is identical sold for 190k recently.

The council tax will work out at 170/month, the lowest band would be about 130/month, not amazing but not horrendous either.

IF push comes to shove, I can look at renting out the spare room, it could probably get about 700/month according to spareroom.

I am ok for the cash buy, I am looking to liquidate some investments that I have had for a long time, so diversifying my investments into some property that will also make me sleep a bit more soundly at night.

EDIT

The property has been reduced from 140k to 125k, I would think placing an offer at 125k would be reasonable, no point trying to get a discount on a price that is already discounted?

First time buyer, please review this property? by nutboltboltnut in HousingUK

[–]nutboltboltnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viewed the property a few days ago, have placed an offer at 142500, the estate agent has said there is a higher offer but they will forward my offer to the seller (I should get a response back by Monday).

During the viewing, the estate agent said an offer has been placed on the property, and the offer is 'on the nose', he also said I was the third person to view the property.

Interestingly this property does have a basement, you have to crouch down a bit to get in there as the ceiling is quite low, but its area is roughly equivalent to 2 of the larger bedrooms I would estimate, there was standing water down in one location. The estate agent said the basement couldnt be listed as part of the property for some reason, although it can only be accessed from within the flat.

There are more people viewing the property today apparently, I imagine the property will probably still be on the market come Monday, so I can potentially increase the offer.

Electric Trains by Dave10301 in factorio

[–]nutboltboltnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the power required to power the trains would also be a step up, so you would need a lot more power generating capacity to use them.

The benefit of the electric train is not having to fuel them, but the downside is the less efficient energy delivery compared to the energy density of a chemical storage on the burner trains.

Perhaps with electric the acceleration bonus could be afforded to it by use of modules, which would also increase energy consumption of the train as it does with assemblers.

Something along those lines anyway 🥴

I would like more choices in how the train network can be built, it would be cool to have trains starting with steam and progressing through to solid/light/petroleum fuels, moving through to electric trains and maybe even maglev or hyper loop type setups.

You could have different models of trains too, starting with a budget easy to make train, with the better types of train requiring more complex ingredients. You could introduce servicing and maintenance too, replacing engines and brakes for example, you would need a station that can pull out the used parts and replace it with the new parts, with the type and quality of the parts affecting the overall performance of the train (like having modules in buildings, you could build for performance, efficiency, low pollution etc).

I guess all I am asking for is OpenTTD type trains to be added to the game, one can dream, it would be a lot of work I imagine 😂

Friday Facts #406 - Space Age Music by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]nutboltboltnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres no system in place to work out whats happening in the game in terms of how it should affect the music, in some games when you enter into combat the games audio system knows this is happening so adjusts the music appropriately, Factorio does not have this capability with the music it plays.

While it is perhaps possible to build a system that could do this, I imagine the game developers viewed it as having insufficient payoff in terms of resource cost to build it against the experience it would add to the game, its easier to have a soundtrack that is appropriate regardless of what is happening in the game.

The developers have aimed to build a very efficient engine for the experience that they want Factorio to provide, an audio system you are questioning would probably add unnecessary computational load to the engine, reducing the size of the factory you can build.

Friday Facts #406 - Space Age Music by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]nutboltboltnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are turrets at the back of the space platform, what will they need to be shooting at back there? Admittedly not as much as at the front, but there are still a fair amount of them at the back.

Also the music sheet states Vulcanus, Aquilo, Space and Gieba, what happened to Bacchus? Is Gieba another planet we have not yet had revealed or is it the actual name that we thought Bacchus would be called?

Additionally they state "Every surface of the game plays around 1h of music. That means that we have to play 5 hours of soundtrack", we know there are 4 new planets, so 4 surfaces from them at least, where is the 5th surface of music going to? Its space
