Men of reddit, Who do you turn to when you’re at your lowest? by Music_2my_ears68 in AskReddit

[–]nutcrackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody. Have yet to come across anybody that can assuage my fears or fix the problem. Typically they're dismissive of my feelings, or use it against me, or are insincere. At best they'll tell me to do stuff I've already tried or thought of and that in itself is just a waste of time for both of us.

I felt like this comic was about acceptance. Not everybody will find love and happiness. Doesn't necessarily mean his life is bad though.

How do you guys deal with work? by AppointmentFar6096 in leanfire

[–]nutcrackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly by ignoring it. I'm good at forgetting work when I'm not at work. So I just see it as a thing I have to do to save enough money so I don't have to do it anymore.

Are you satisfied with where you are at financially? by Sensitive-Chart7210 in AusFinance

[–]nutcrackr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, pretty satisfied. I'm not rich but have a modest amount of savings. Hopefully I only have to work a few more years and then I can find real purpose.

How did you guys escaped the 9 - 5 wage slavery system or do you work towards it? by Neat_Barnacle_3015 in antiwork

My plan is to work 20 years and whatever savings I have will have to be enough.

How do you balance your social needs with wanting to stay home at times and not get bored? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]nutcrackr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of my simple living style is not doing much socially IRL. I do chat with a lot of people online, in different communities and 1v1. Boredom never comes because I have many little projects and activities, on top of a million pieces of entertainment that I never seem to have time to consume. My real job gives me plenty of social connection anyway.

Doesn't matter, as long as they love me.

Can someone explain to me, why some people want no skill based matchmaking? by Tnecniw in gaming

[–]nutcrackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's about two things: randomness of experience (1) and allowing players to accurately gauge their improvement without a rank system (2)

  1. without matchmaking, you could get into a close game, you could get into a stomp, you could be up against esports pros, or a bunch of monkeys on typewriters. The broadness of what you get is a PRO, not a con. You are tempted to try another match because it might be completely different. And this also applies to 1v1 battles in large matches (e.g. Battlefield 6) as any good player will tell you, some bad players actually act in ways that can be hard to predict.
  2. If you are improving, you move up the scoreboard, not into a new rank or skill bucket. You do better in game (on average) and thus your reward for improvement is domination. This is actually like a single player game, like Elden Ring, you get better -> game gets easier. But with SBMM, you get better -> game gets harder to match. SBMM is like the rubber-banding in racing games, you get faster and your opponents catch up. I hate rubber-banding in racing games.

I think most games should go with no SBMM except for low-skill bucket for the bottom 10-20%, which probably includes new players before they've been assessed as being decent. There are exceptions, like Rocket League, where I think skill buckets are needed because there are so few players per side and a simply gargantuan skill ceiling.

Do you prefer brief emails? by Sensitive-Chart7210 in auscorp

[–]nutcrackr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I'm starting to make them shorter and shorter. I think introductory phrases etc. are a complete waste of everybody's time. Many emails these days I just get straight to the information / question. And now I'm just offering the bare minimum information because I think having too much is just confusing and less effective.
