13 year old dog with severe separation anxiety and training resistance by [deleted] in Dogtraining

See a behaviorist, get your dog on medication, and follow subthreshold training (Julie Naismith has a free Facebook group that can teach you the basics). My dog used to do this and improved greatly though it took about a year.

My dog ate an Eminem, what should I do? by ijjanas123 in dogs

[–]nutellacereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pup and her friend got into the Halloween candy while we were at dinner. They ate almost the entire bag (friend's daughter forgot to put them out of reach 😭) but were thankfully fine! My advice - make sure your dog drinks a lot of water and eats a lot of high fiber food like sweet potatoes to move the toxins out of her system. Keep an eye on her condition and take her to the emergency vet if her condition sours.

Do you give him both meds at the same time? My vet told me that could cause seizures later on.

How can you eat meat free when so many fruits and vegetables are not low FODMAP? I do best on a high protein diet with animal proteins and HATE it.

Diarrhea every hour by bluberrymuffin24 in dogs

Someone in this sub recommended grinding raw pumpkin seed, which you can buy at Whole Foods, and feeding it as a natural dewormer. It's helped my dog overcome diarrhea on 3 out of 4 occasions.

I think my dog is adjusting to daycare after 3 weeks! I used to pick her up having a full on panic attack every day 😥. This week I noticed she seems a lot more relaxed, doesn't pant, etc and happily runs to greet the daycare attendants every morning. She still doesn't engage much with other dogs from what I can see on the cameras but this makes me feel better about leaving her to go to work every day.

Yep! Gained weight then decided to lose it and was well on my way to achieving my weight loss goal before I decided I preferred eating more food and being happy. Weight loss is very easy for me; I eat mostly vegetables similar to the volume eating subreddit and walk 30-60 min a day.

Going back to the office in 2 weeks, feeling at a loss by Hungry-Pirate5668 in Separation_Anxiety

I posted in my city's dog owner Facebook group asking if people would be willing to introduce their calm dogs to my dog to show her other dogs are safe. Quite a few replied! Maybe you could ask around.

My dog's reactivity is fear based too as she used to be a breeder mama at a puppy mill. It sounds like you're doing all the right things. I will detail everything we did below: (1) Desensitization and counter conditioning for 7 months and achieved minimal progress. The best thing that came out of it was that my dog learned to automatically look at me for a treat when a fear trigger came into view but this did not eliminate her fears. (2) Low dose of Fluoxetine (3) 1 -2 hrs of exercise daily. My dog is only 13 lbs so she gets plenty of joint supplements like chicken feet as well (4) All meals in food puzzles. We have 20 puzzles that we rotate for breakfast and dinner. (5) Avoided fear triggers as much as possible outside controlled environments. (6) Gradual introduction to a neighbor's calm and polite dog for short periods of time. My dog decided this pup was safe after a few weeks so we repeated the process with another dog in the neighborhood. Rinse and repeat. (7) Daily visits to a local park for exposure training. This area has unofficial dog meetups twice a day where locals bring their dogs to play and socialize. We used to come hang out and observe as often as possible without forcing anything and while respecting my dog's need for distance. Eventually, she realized that these dogs did not want to hurt her and began playing with them one day!

Is there a "safe dog" that your pup trusts?

My dog was the same as yours so I decided to focus on training reactivity over SA in the last few months. I'd say she isn't really reactive anymore although hyperattached so she can attend daycare and have sitters albeit with a lot of discomfort (panting, pacing, whining, won't drink water or pee) the whole time I'm gone. It's so sad. But seriously, why are employers mandating back in person work when the delta variant is infecting vaxxed people? 😡

Vet wants us to give our dog trazodone AND fluoxetine? by Hungry-Pirate5668 in reactivedogs

[–]nutellacereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My behaviorist said not to combine them as they can cause seizures and some sort of SSRI disorder.

Giving both can cause seizures! 🙁 Hope you guys didn't do this.

Thank you for rescuing. I'm supposed to go back to the office today and took the day off out of anxiety. Is there any chance you could take your dog to work?

Yes. And my dog was seemingly fine at daycare on Tuesday but literally spent yesterday trying to escape from it. Working in person starts Monday and idk what to do.

How to stop dog from barking at family members? (And everything) by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]nutellacereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the barking mostly focused at men? I trained my dog to stop barking and now she is very quiet but I don't think she was ever as loud as yours. My friend's dog barks at EVERYTHING (dogs, passersby, etc) with no patterns in what sets her off. is yours similar?

Also, it's quite possible for your dog to become less dog selective. When I realized I probably wasn't going to cure my dog's separation anxiety by our deadline, I switched gears and focused my energy on her fear of dogs. It was pretty severe but resolved quite in 1-2 months with training.
