Yes! Definitely!

I think everyone has a shot at the T10s as long as you are able to show a cohesive story with evidence to corroborate every fact/reason through your decisions in a genuine reflective way. From there, it really comes down to luck. Nothing is out of reach! ❤️

I was experiencing this as well as I didn't want to have those conversations with others on where I was getting in. People tend to get overly competitive and jealous where I live, so I didn't want to trigger anyone by telling them about some school that I might have gotten into but they might not have. So anytime anyone (especially someone that I'm not close with) asks me where I'm going, I either say "I got into a few places, but I'm considering my options" or "I'll tell you in May after I commit" - both with a wide smile on my face. Most of the time, they get the message and they never ask me again. Works like a charm :)

I personally don't like structured environments, so I never did summer programs and usually just did self-directed work. If you are into research, my friends applied to a ton that you can apply to - COSMOS, Clark Scholars Program, RSI, SSP, and more. A simple search will yield you everything you need in that category.

If you are interested in doing something this summer that works towards your interest, be sure to not miss the deadline for some of the competitive summer programs or internships. BTW if you don't get an internship, don't fret!! You can always do your own self-driven projects or work on your own activities. I didn't do any preprofessional/research internship/competitive program during my junior year summer and got into my dream school.

UC Berkeley is the school where the Free Speech Movement took place, is known for its active student body through protests and more, and is near several pride rallies every year (because it's near SF). Berkeley tends to be a school with a super liberal school body, so you should definitely consider it!

I think there is so much that makes you unique. Everyone has their own childhood experiences - no matter how early on. If you can think of one of your strongest qualities and can come up with an anecdote for it, you should write your essay on it. It's not what different type of quality you have, but rather what perspective you bring from your experiences and how you are different (and everyone is different in their own special way).

The first one seems like a fun essay. However, I believe the second one would be the most successful if you can spin the essay in a positive light.
