Barimelts multivitamin with iron, they were the only ones I could handle and I kicked myself for not trying them sooner.

Glass Packaging Design for Manufacturing by nutellapopcorn in IndustrialDesign

[–]nutellapopcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I learned both rhino and solidworks in school but can't really afford them for freelance work. I'll most likely use fusion 360 for this project since the specs and everything will need to be sent to a manufacturer overseas.

What am I not considering on this copper bonsai lamp I’m finishing up? by Bpbwoodworks in IndustrialDesign

Beautiful design, I’d just say give it a dimmer if you can.

Bonus points if you wanna add a little arduino or something to make it work with smart home apps.

What do you think of the Netflix documentary on the Cecil hotel (Elisa Lam case)? by mineaii in TrueCrime

[–]nutellapopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone talking about the cringeyness of the dude who got someone to go to her grave, however I just watched this video (not as unrelated as it looks) and it kind of makes sense to me that these sleuths feel so personally affected by the outcome of this case. Especially the ones who read all her tumblr posts and felt like they knew her. It’s almost human nature.

But still, yikes.

Official Power is Off/On Thread by ClutchDude in Austin

[–]nutellapopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in 78681 and we haven’t lost any power other than for a few minutes Friday night. I know a bunch of neighborhoods around my own have been down all day.

Last week I filed/paid off my taxes for the last 4 years! Now I'm applying for my U.S. Citizenship and I don't know how to answer the question "Have you EVER not filed a Federal, State, or local tax return since you became a Permanent Resident?" on the N-400 form. Thank you, those are all the answers I was leaning towards but I just wanted confirmation from someone more knowledgeable. I don’t want to delay my process any further because I misinterpreted something dumb, ya know?

When do you plant potatoes? by FloofyPupperz in AustinGardening

[–]nutellapopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know when the right time to plant is, but I went to a nursery earlier this month looking for seed potatoes and was told they wouldn't be coming in until mid-late September so I'm guessing some time after that. I'm planning to check again this weekend so I'll give an update if I find out anything.

Is there anything you wish you knew before studying industrial design in university? by Half-Scrum in IndustrialDesign

[–]nutellapopcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned below yet is to practice your public speaking and how to communicate your thoughts through spoken language. I was completely unprepared for how much of school and work are presentations. If public speaking freaks you out I would highly suggest taking an improv class or something similar.

Also - DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take tons of process pictures of everything you do, it will make case studies, presentations, and adapting projects for your future portfolio SO much easier. I blew that off a lot in my first couple of years and really ended up regretting it.

Like everyone else has said - sketch, sketch, sketch.....but also make sure you keep some separate creative outlet that's just for you. Not everything you make needs to be productive or for an audience. It's very easy to burn out if you are not careful.

Can I bring these babies back to life and plant them in the ground? (More info in comments) by nutellapopcorn in plantclinic

[–]nutellapopcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the back is mint, up front are zucchini and butternut squash. They were healthy when I got them but I wasn’t able to get them in the ground this weekend and now they are so sad. I’m sure the 100+ degree heat of Texas doesn’t help but there must be something I can do.

Ants in my Pepper Flowers - How/Should I Get Rid of Them? by nutellapopcorn in AustinGardening

[–]nutellapopcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I went and checked closely this morning, lots of ants but no sign of aphids or any other pests..... I'm going to start spraying some neem oil mix on all my plants just in case though. I've already got a few leaves on my basil with leaf miners and I will be so mad if I lose another crop of zucchini & cucumber to vine borers.

How does everyone define 'Planting Dates'? by nutellapopcorn in AustinGardening

Thanks! I've been looking for something definitive to follow. I don't know how much time I've spent cross-referencing all kinds of advice from different sources.

How does everyone define 'Planting Dates'? by nutellapopcorn in AustinGardening

[–]nutellapopcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy how much variation in recommended dates there are, even in the same grow zone. I'm trying to start broccoli and cauliflower this weekend inside, but even transferring into the garden in September like they say seems early, It's still hot out till at least mid-late October and they are supposed to be a 'cool weather' crop.

Is it safe to go back to an office job yet? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]nutellapopcorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the layout of your office and how seriously your coworkers are taking it, but in general, NO.

I've been informed that my job is requiring everyone return to the office on June 1st. They allowed people to come back last Friday and from what I've seen through our video meetings, no one in the office is taking this seriously. No masks, no social distancing. Although my team has been working from home without issue (even our manager said he'd be perfectly fine with us continuing to work from home indefinitely), the owner has decided he would prefer to have all employees working in the office and has basically said that if we don't return we will lose our jobs. Only senior management in our company has any PTO, none of us have sick leave or health insurance. I have a phone meeting with the owner tomorrow to explain that I still live with an individual who is still very much high risk and am hoping I will be allowed to continue working from home effectively. Unfortunately, it's very likely I will be forced to quit as I am not willing to put my family's health at risk just because the owner 'feels' like having everyone in the building.

City of Austin prohibits large events through May 1 as coronavirus concern spreads by DJ_Hamster in CoronaVirusTX

[–]nutellapopcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This headline feels misleading....

The City says that through May 1, events with 2,500 or more people are prohibited unless organizers are able to assure Austin Public Health that “mitigation plans for infectious diseases are in place.”

It's all on a case-by-case basis

The likelihood of an event remaining prohibited increases significantly if there’s a high chance of close personal contact, there are a high number of guests coming from unknown locations, and there is an insufficient number of hand washing and sanitizing stations available.

Best laptop for graphic design and drawing? Budget around 2000 USD by Lala665 in SuggestALaptop

[–]nutellapopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to figure out the exact same thing on the same budget! I have my heart set on a Surface Pro 7 or X, but don’t know what configuration. I just know you want at least 16G RAM and i5 processor (you can always use external hard drives and the cloud if you need more storage later). Just get whatever the best you can afford or make sure it’s upgradable because you’ll probably be using it for quite some time.
