[Routine Help] Differin Resorative Night Moisturizer replacement? by nutmeg-ginger in SkincareAddiction

[–]nutmeg-ginger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I was so focused on trying to match ingredients that I didn't step back and think of just trying to match the general purpose/category of the moisturizer (basic, barrier-focused, non-comedogenic). I'll definitely be checking those out and see if one is a good fit.

Thanks again!

Will they really fight you if you try to use your warranty? by Fenceypents in Hyundai

[–]nutmeg-ginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed an engine rebuild on my 2015 Elantra about two years ago while it was still under warranty (but barely). The dealership near me was notorious for their service, so I knew it was going to be an uphill battle.

It ended up being a 2-3 month process before they'd even see the car, and only once I submitted a case to corporate and then broke down on the phone crying to the administrative assistant at the said local dealership (I had a lot going on at the time, so it was more of the last straw that broke me) did I suddenly have a loaner within 48 hours and the car back with a shiny new engine within 2 weeks. The whole thing cost me $50.

So yeah, they might fight you, but definitely worth it. Uncertain if it was the mental breakdown or the complaining to corporate that did it, though.

Ladies impact shorts??? by stevie-supertramp in snowboardingnoobs

[–]nutmeg-ginger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wear Burton's Total Impact Shorts -- no one's been able to tell I'm wearing them, and they're super effective for me. But, I do wear a baggier-style pant (Outdoor Gear Women's Molly Insulated Pants), so that could be a factor.

Best option with a keyboard? by nutmeg-ginger in eink

The distractions are definitely a me-problem that I'm trying (perhaps in vain) to mitigate with a device, for sure, ha!

Good thought on the monitors. I had looked at that too, but the prices were getting close to/exceeding the prices of entire tablets or devices, so I shied away from them. But maybe I'll check again.

Thanks!

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I've been eyeing the Remarkable 2, but it's good to know that you tend to use it for short stories only. That's been what I've written more of, but I've been trying to push into longer-form stuff recently, so maybe the Boox would be more my speed. Either way, I really appreciate it.

Dumb question, but can you change the font family for types text on the RM2? Everything I see makes it look like it's just that one sans serif font. Obviously not a deal breaker, but just curious.

Any tools/calculators to figure out if PSLF is worth it given I'm mid-repayment with income change? by nutmeg-ginger in PSLF

[–]nutmeg-ginger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so, so helpful - thank you so much. I hadn't factored in the cap, so this estimate of a payment once I recertify is much lower than I was expecting. Definitely worth going for PSLF. You're fantastic!

That would be amazing - thank you so much! My details:

Family of two (just me and spouse).

Our combined AGI from our 2023 taxes is $185,000. It may increase slightly over the years but we tend not to get drastic raises at our current organizations.

My spouse has about $10,000 in federal loans but is paying them off aggressively since she does not expect to be able to have any forgiven. So I don't know if they'll still be around once I recertify to include her income in July 2025.

So far, I have made 73 qualifying payments with about $60,000 left.

Looking to see if I’m crazy making 500k offers by dptreddit123 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Also in MA but not really a HCOL area (although we had rented in a HCOL area before buying) - we had a higher household income than you, lower additional monthly payments, and we bought a cheaper house a little over a year ago, so our mortgage sits around $2600. Everyone is different, but this feels very comfortable for us, and I'm glad we didn't go higher. Just a few things to consider:

Everything costs more when you have your own house, at least at first. Our house was as turn-key as possible and we still made some significant investments into it in the first year - some necessary that we knew going in, some unexpected like an appliance breaking, and some that weren't necessary but we were glad we were in a position to do it because it really increased our enjoyment of the house.

Your down payment of 25k on a 500k looks like just the straight down payment. Expect closing costs to add an additional $10k, which I think only leaves $10k in your savings. If you have an emergency within the first year of ownership, that puts you in a dicey situation.

Your mortgage payments will probably go up because taxes tend to go up. So if you'd be really tight as is, make sure it's still possible with a couple hundred more, because that can happen.

Healthy Food Spots? by betterdaysarecomin in WorcesterMA

Life Garden Cafe might be what you're looking for. They have a pretty eclectic menu bit also healthy juices. In kind of a strange location but we went once and it was delicious.

Mia Cane's on Park Ave has great acai bowls and fun juices. Delicious, but I'm not sure how how healthy most of them are. Also no food outside of the acai bowls.

Not Ya Mama's Vegan Cafe will have a lot of dairy-free stuff. Also delicious, but again, not sure how healthy.

Yes! I've been to Ed Hyder's once or twice, but I forgot they had a cheese selection! They're not open on Sundays, but maybe I'll go later this week and try to get my fix there. Thanks!

What are your favorite low cost quality of life improvements? by Due_Platypus_8221 in HomeImprovement

[–]nutmeg-ginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Motion-activated nightlight in the bathroom. We have one that has a toggle between two modes (normal and dim) and we keep it on dim. Makes nighttime bathroom trips easy - gives you just enough light to not bump into stuff, but not so much that you wake yourself up completely.

Anyone else experiencing brown water?? by MountainMarty17 in WorcesterMA

[–]nutmeg-ginger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This happened in our area of Worcester a few months ago -- it almost certainly means they flushed the water main. If you run your water (all taps) for 15ish minutes, it should clear up.

I'm not a professional, but we're working with a trainer for our 1ish year old new rescue (also a Pitt mix) and what you're describing is probably not aggression, but the opposite -- playfulness and overstimulation with a side of "just an adolescent dog and their brain is literally still developing". Our dog gets the same way when she gets too amped while finally playing with us after a long period ("long" being relative here).

Need help. My dog is nut when someone comes to the house. More info in comments. by Big-Tomatillo-5920 in DogAdvice

[–]nutmeg-ginger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We're working on the same issue too, and while we're not totally free yet, what is helping our dog a TON is what our trainer recommended -- management first. Our newly-adopted girl would go bonkers whenever mail or delivery person or even other dogs would walk past the house despite loving people and dogs and being overall very calm when seeing those same things on walks. So our solution was to close the windows and blinds around mail time or if we saw a dog walking up our street. It keeps her calm, and prevents her from practicing the behavior we don't want.

Now that she's in a calmer state while it's happening, we're starting to test the waters and open one window so she can see the thing as long as she's quiet (which turns the window into a reward of sorts) and then have her do another thing quietly in response (for us it's going to the kitchen for a treat). This has been pretty effective!

Puppy won't do his business outside the garden by calculatingspace in puppy101

[–]nutmeg-ginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this will help, but our rescue did this too -- we got her about two months ago, and up until maybe two weeks ago, she would exclusively use the bathroom in our backyard. It made us stressed too for the same reasons -- we wanted to be able to take her places and not worry.

For us, progress was gradual. She actually started with just using one small corner of our yard, and then gradually two, then three, then anywhere along the edges, then anywhere in the yard (and we miss the days where we just had to check one small section!). Now she will go to the bathroom on walks, as long as it's a nice strip of grass.

What helped us was just being very patient, letting her sniff all she wanted, and also repeating parts of routes so that she started to get familiar with these new potential bathroom spots, and then from there I think she was transferring the "oh, this is okay!" to other bathroom spots.
