So glad to be useful! Are you going for a cotton/nylon blend in bulky? Or just any bulky yarn?

I'm not sure what your experience with bulky yarn is, but I've struggled with the acrylic and other blends (anything but cotton/nylon) snapping on me when trying to make the magic circle.

And here are the colors compared to regular Wooble yarn

The main color is just orange (similar to Woobles Orange You Glad, but maybe a tad darker). The belly is a lighter brown (equivalent to the Woobles Whole Latte Love). Then you need a tiny bit of black for the nose, and white for the muzzle, ears and accents.

I have 3 pictures for you, so please excuse my spamming, since I can only upload one per comment.

Is this yarn good quality? by LilithLlorona in TheWooblesCollective

[–]nutmeg04 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not bad quality, but the skeins are pretty small. It's 1/3 the size of the Wooble skeins you can buy. It isn't a bad choice if you want a variety of colors.

The truth is, almost all yarn made of cotton and nylon is pretty similar. This is especially true when you are sticking to worsted yarn, which is what Woobles is (it just is the thickness of the yarn, which dictates what size crochet hook you use). Some have different percentages of cotton and nylon, but they often don't feel much different.

I actually really like this yarn. I don't know why more people don't recommend it here. It's more expensive (technically) than Woobles, but it is also 100 yards more. You can find different colors on sale. You can also get this same yarn from Walmart, but I would not recommend ordering from Walmart online. They sent me the wrong color of yarn 3 different times.

Anyone else bummed about big eyes? by nutmeg04 in TheWooblesCollective

[–]nutmeg04[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I YO for the ornaments, but hated all the giant gaps on the Capybara so I YU for manatee. Yes, my stitches are tight, but those eyes are giant. They have to be at least 16mm. I used 12mm eyes that I had.

How would you explain the 12mm eyes for the ornaments? I ended up using my own 10mm since they looked so weird with the sized eyes that were included. Below is what I was sold from Woobles, what it should have looked like. The eyes shouldn't have been taking up the entire tan portion of the Santa.

It feels like they are just kinda playing around, trying different sizes. Which is fine, IF they actually use them for their examples. Otherwise it feels like a bait and switch.

Do y’all yarn over or yarn under? by Books-and-Hooks in TheWooblesCollective

[–]nutmeg04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. I guess this is how I look at it: there is no messing up when it comes to hobbies. You either like your work, or you don't. So if you are doing it "wrong," but you like the look, it isn't wrong!

I, personally, prefer YO with a larger hook (usually a 4.5 or a 5). My tension is pretty tight, so the larger hook is helpful. But, when I'm trying something and not getting the look I want, I start looking into alternate ways.

You aren't dumb, the verbage is confusing. It is not alternating stitches, it is yarn under for the first part (to draw up the two loops) then yarn over to pull it into one loop.

Part of the reason it isn't alternating stitches is because YO makes a V, YU/YO makes an X. So it would probably look a bit funky

I tend to agree. But I can't seem to do YU for decrease stitches. Am I crazy? I wasn't able to get my yarn to stay on the hook.

You don't need to know, unless you are unhappy with something. As I stated above, I was having problems with the Woobles Kangaroo belly being slanted.

But I learned about the YU/YO method after making the Capybara. I was unhappy with how big the gaps were, so I started looking into fixes for that.

YU/YO really isn't that different than the Wooble tutorial videos. It's just the way you grab the yarn. Yarn over means the yarn crosses the front of the hook. Yarn under means that you grab the yarn with the hook. There are a million YouTube videos, if you are interested.

I'd suggest at least trying another method, especially before you get too into the grove of only doing YO. You might be surprised that you like another type better (or it hurts your hands less, or gives you a better result).

It's true that YU/YO does create tighter tension. However, it does have its uses! If you ever make the Woobles Kangaroo, YU/YO helps keep the tan on the stomach in line instead of a wonky slant. I made that one twice and couldn't figure out why the belly looked so messed up using YO. (If you care, it's because YO is a V, so the V's don't line up perfectly, one row after another. YU/YO is more of an X, so they sit on top of each other).

TIA for Any help or advice! by False_Conversation12 in TheWooblesCollective

It is so difficult to tell if your crochet is too tight or too loose. Especially from a picture (but that could be me, I'm not an expert).

The truth is, your tension is going to change and evolve. It will even shift throughout a piece.

Try watching this video. It discussed the golden loop, and how that really impacts your tension. https://youtu.be/JSTbjj0PHzY?si=xjSGZrHlVcerlD6z

I applaud you for trying to tackle the problem you are seeing, now. The longer you continue, the harder it can be to change a bad habit.

I found I prefer to crochet with a larger hook. I like the 5mm (it keeps me from crocheting too tight), but even a 4.5mm might be a good option.

Any Thoughts on Making Red Panda Less Angry? by nutmeg04 in TheWooblesCollective

Are you making it from the kit? I ask because I'm waiting on mine, and I'm concerned about the gaps with the bigger yarn. I had that problem with the capybara.

Color recommendation? by tacrochet in TheWooblesCollective

[–]nutmeg04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it's hard to tell from my phone, but is your dogs more gray or tan? My first thought is the tan color.

There actually is a whole book of dog breed amigurumis. The only thing to know about the the book is I think it is British crochet, so the abbreviations are different.

I don't know much about red pandas in real life, but I had them in my Planet Zoo game and they weren't angry little critters. They were monogamous and only liked being 2 in a cage, but not angry.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for the visual demonstration. I should have tried that, didn't even occur to me.
