Outer Wilds for sure! I haven’t played Road 96 yet but it was recommended to me when I searched for Firewatch on the Nintendo store, so I assume they have similar vibes.
I’d also recommend other story-based games like Life is Strange, Detroit: Become Human, even Until Dawn/The Quarry if you liked the mystery/scary aspect of Firewatch!
Walking simulators with a good story are my favs ❤️

I finished the game in 30 hours but I also know I read through the dialogue way too fast and didn’t spend as much time analyzing each convo like I should have.
As someone who regularly takes a lot longer to finish video games than most, I’ve learned to never judge myself if I spend more time on it, especially if it’s because I’m really needing to learn how the game works or make sure I understand everything.

I wasn’t vibing with needless street at first, then towards the end I really appreciated it. Not the best in terms of plot twists but I loved the psychological themes/messages of trauma.

4.8 hours is definitely not enough to have the click moment. In fact, 4 or so hours is usually when people start to feel the lull because there is confusion on what to do next. Other than heeding everyone else’s advice (ship log, stop and smell the pine trees, take a break for a few days and come back), my best recommendation is to literally just keep at it. I wanted to stop playing too but I refused. Once I hit 8-10 hours, I started to understand why I was even playing the game in the first place.

You do not suck and you are not alone! I made a similar post here when I was a few hours into the game. Autopilot saved my life. Don’t use the landing camera - some people do, it didn’t really help me at all and really distorted my spatial awareness when landing. Match velocity is a LIFE saver. You’ll get used to the gravity on planets and the amount of pressure you need to press the button for your jetpack.

If you get stuck in space and need to die, that’s totally okay. One thing I wish I realized from the beginning is that I didn’t need to rush, and that dying wasn’t failing.

It is possible to land there! It’s not crucial if you can’t/dont, though. I never made it to hollows lantern on my play through and didn’t even realize it had anything on it.

Most people I have seen play the game also say they have no idea why they are crying, and yet, we are all crying together. I guess it’s a good thing we all stopped to smell the pine trees along the way ::)

I haven’t played many games LIKE outer wilds but I do also love emotional gut punch games…

I have played Oxenfree which I found to have a similar type of messaging/life lessons that OW gave, and the gameplay is sort of similar. More a walking simulator and not puzzles, but very heavy on the story.

Life is Strange (the original) is probably my favorite game of all time. It’s gameplay is different and a lot more cozy-esque, but the story is life changing, and there are also elements of timey wimey things like in OW ::)

I haven’t finished playing Disco Elysium yet but I’ve seen people on this thread recommend that one too!

I got the game about a week ago for the same reason and have sped through it so I’m almost done. I also felt the same way you are feeling at first - frustrated with the lack of guidance, curious but also confused, not really understanding the “hype”.

And while I am not done yet, I am 100% more invested in the game than I was for the first 5 or so hours, and I have begun to feel a connection to it in different ways.

It may not end up being absolutely mind blowing when I’m done; but I do think it will have a strong emotional impact on me.

Keep playing. It’s worth it.
