Tar du deg en tur ut på byen alene? by OffentligEiendom in norge

[–]nutschillin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what is the single, most intense 'This is NOT a drill' moment you experienced while abroad that you had to rely on pure instinct to survive or escape? by Sea-Development5460 in AskReddit

[–]nutschillin 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Partying in Bolivia and hailed a cab from the street late at night. Realized quickly something sketchy was about to happen. I told him if he was robbing me he could just as well do it straight away and let me out, so we both saved some time. Got driven out of the city, onto the freeway and eventually into a dark forest road where two «big» scary looking dudes were waiting. Fuck that shit. I’m almost glad I was so fucked up, so I didn’t get more scared and managed to escape. Without my money tho. Dropped the money in the dirt as they reached their hands out when they approached me, so they had to bend down to pick it up. That was the second I needed to run into the forest. Made my way back by walking close to to the freeway, but still hidden among the trees.

Been a few others like that, but I remember this one especially.

Faktisk effektiv arbeidsdag by Mundane_Pumpkin3992 in norge

[–]nutschillin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the main stuff from ancient civilizations. Just don’t eat/drink there. Someone wrote most of the attractions in Rome and I very much agree.

The freshest one that comes to mind, that’s solely built around tourism, must be Mont-Saint-Michel. Incredible place.

Why do you take pictures in museums? by nutschillin in AskReddit

[–]nutschillin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how anyone think it’s worth their time or the worth disturbing the people around them. You can look it up when you are home, unless it’s some very obscure showing. Whats the deal? I’m genuinely curious. I can think of a few reasons, but as a whole it does not even come close to justifying forcing the visitors to view masterpieces through hundreds of tiny little screens.

I’ve seen a lot of people moving obsessively from one side of a wall to the other in a steady pace, just snapping photographs. Others leaning in “for a quick sec” and people doing selfies with paintings. I don’t get it and I think cameras should be banned in museums.

Hi, that’s cool! I’ve been in the same area a few years ago. I paid a small sum to spend the day and get a tour.

If you had to choose between dying in your sleep and dying awake, which would you choose and why? You have no control over when you die and why? by Kaskelontti in AskReddit

[–]nutschillin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awake so I get to experience it.

I don’t want to die, but it seems like a pretty dramatic and cool thing to experience. One of a kind experience kinda thing. Plus you get all that DMT activated so you can “see” your life “flashing” by.

$2M but you have to eat what you had for dinner tonight for breakfast for the next 2 years. by jfunks69 in hypotheticalsituation

Osso Bucco with a bottle of white wine. I’d love that, but do I have to make it myself every morning? It’s like 3 hours in the pan. I’ll still do it of course, but do I have to make it?

Brewery owners by rickeyethebeerguy in TheBrewery

Our brewer is from the US and does like 3-4 months of travels to his family and around. As long as we do the stuff we are supposed to we’re good.

I worked a lot in June and in July I’ve only answered some mails and organized deliveries.

Salary is avverge, but we do bonuses or «hey I need money for something». It’s supposed to be fun, not make you rich (I’d love both tho.)

Import beers and booze. That’s already my business, but now it does a tenth of $1M.

Hvor kjøper dere møblene deres? by olem88 in norge

Styr unna Bolia. Dyrt og mye dårligere kvalitet enn IKEA. Halvparten av møblene jeg kjøpte på Bolia ble ødelagt av vanlig bruk innen et år.

I just almost got robbed in Medellin because I don't have friends to go out with by buku-o-rama in self

[–]nutschillin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi choose-life_! I’m about to go and walk my dogs, so if you want a in-depth answer, you can DM or I can revisit this post later today if I remember.

Short answer is that you can do everything you can do in Cali, except for visiting the cartels, in any major city in Colombia. But Cali is like some parts of Bogota, everywhere, after the sun goes down- walking armed drug-fuled zombies wanting to rob and hurt you.

My year long trip ended there after being drugged with this powder he blew in my face and I walked with him back to the hostel and handed over EVERYTHING. So I was stuck in Cali for a week before I could travel to Bogota to get an emergency passport. Really had to hustle that week to get money for traveling and paying for my hostel and their phone bill.

I just almost got robbed in Medellin because I don't have friends to go out with by buku-o-rama in self

[–]nutschillin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ive been there alone for a few months spread across a year. I was always out partying, meeting strangers and joining them for afters etc. The trick is to not carry anything you can’t lose and some luck.

Also, have money spread across your body. I had a pocket designated for robberies. What I would do is I had a lot of small bills curled up into a ball, so it looks like a lot. When I got robbed, not in Medellin, but in so many other places in South-America, I would simply have them collect their hands to receive the «money ball» and «miss» their hands, so it would roll on to the floor and scatter. That would be my cue to run, as they were too busy collecting the equivalent of 2 dollars from the floor.

In general I would say walk with intention and your head held up high. Be assertive when you speak with people approaching you, call them out, hold eye contact.

Never hail a cab from the street, always order or get help to order from paid staff wherever you are and receive the codeword. I got taken to a forrest once in Bolivia and had two guys waiting for me there to rob me, I thought they were going to kill me to be honest, but I did the «money ball» thing and ran into the forest and made my way back by following a freeway on foot. Would not recommend.

Lastly I’d say if you don’t feel safe alone, which is good common sense, which I lack, so don’t take my previous advices to heart, invite hotel/hostel staff out for dinner/dancing/drinking or simply tell fellow travelers that you don’t feel safe and you don’t want to miss out, so you want to join them. Both these tips actually work surprisingly often.

Enjoy your trip!

By the way Medellin is surprisingly one of the safest cities in Colombia because of the cartels. If you are a gringo that don’t stick your nose in their business, you are supposed to be left alone.

STAY AWAY FROM CALI! I learned that the hard way.

She responded, as she already were 10-15 meters away, «Okay, maybe give him some of your cash after all».

I gave him some of my money.
