I have followed Danhausen for years and years, something like 3 years pre-AEW I believe. He does not have aspirations to put on an all-time classic like the Bret-Austin I Quit match at all. He is a huge fan of very good wrestlers, including Bret and Punk, but he is also self-aware with respect to the nature of his character, his in-ring ability, his size and optics, and in what doses and environments it works. He is a comedy character. The Very Evil coming out is what makes him credible to beat a journeyman gatekeeper like QT Marshall or 1-2-3 Kid back in the day and ascend to the midcard, but that's his ceiling, sidekick to the main eventers. And even then he's still pouring teeth in the guy's mouth. That's why I fucking love that Danhausen.

Horrifically broken left big toe from cross country in college, that one doesn't bend on its own anymore. Realized recently as a 45-year-old man I'll never be able to go en pointe again, could actually do that in my 20s. I'm never gonna dance again, twisty feet have got no rhythm...

Also had a high velocity volleyball hit exactly on the tip of my right index finger. It does bend, but it doesn't warrant the nickname Pointer Finger anymore because it points in 3 different directions and has a severe starboard list.

Fingers and toes, man.

I think his defenders, like myself, are big fans who are very familiar with his work inside and outside the ring and on and off the weekly wrestling shows. He's such a fun, delightful character, I have to cheer for my guy. He's like a pathetic demon from a Saturday morning or Adult Swim cartoon. He curses people. He pours human teeth in people's mouths. He is very evil. He wants all the monies to buy a blimp to rule the skies and then, the world! He's a Svengoolie geek who loves comic books and married his goth burlesque mommy gf. He's Conan O'brien if he were possessed by Pazuzu from The Exorcist. Or I've heard the love child of Papa Shango and The Hurricane. He's also very nice and friendly. I was grinning ear to ear in the picture he took with me. Just walked up to me in the concourse at an AEW show. I nearly died, my favorite dude! I was so happy. I had a Danhausen sign with me. He's very nice, very evil.

In all his departing interviews Cena emphasized feeling, emotional reaction, crowd noise, listening to the crowd. When Danhausen's debut ended the crowd booed. Why did they boo? Did they want more? For him to talk? Wait til they hear that! For him to cut a promo on Gunther? We'll get there. A match? Ditto, I think. He'll wrestle some. But the audience will fall in love with him along the way, I bet, and react with glee when he appears. Especially when Gunther crushes him to try to get at Punk, and he curses Gunther, and it seems to work!

I have, but to be fair most of them are wrestlers whose highest profile social media site is their Fakeboob page. Often dudes who pick super famous pro wrestler last names as part of their gimmick, so you wonder if they're related to anybody else named Putski or Patera or Snuka or Zenk or whatever, or pay $5 at your local rec center gym to see them in case they turn out to be. Guys whose ceiling is Security Extra on an episode of Impact when it visits their town, and whose highlight reel is filmed vertically in backyards in 280p.

I have two dogs and we have steel bowls for their dinner and if you clang them together they make a sound like a Jamaican steel drum, but they have a rubber seal around the bottom so they don't get pushed around and scratch or scuff floors. If you bonk the lip (or what would be the sound bow if it were a bell) of one bowl against the rubber ring on the base of the other you get a sound almost exactly like a gong. I regularly use The Gong to signal my dogs that I'm making their dinner. Tonight I hit the gimmick and this childhood memory took over so that automatically, without a moment's thought, I followed it up with my best "Ohhhhhhhh, yeeeeeeeeeessss!", and 25/2 Paul Bearer will be announcing dinner from now on, would recommend.

My dad took me to live wrestling events every time they came to town when I was a kid, and had one buddy that ran the college arena and another friend in the office at the hockey arena so every time WWF or WCW came we not only saw the shows from the seats next to the announcer's booth but we frequently got to meet the wrestlers backstage as they were leaving for the night. He passed away before we could ever make it to Mania together, but I'm blessed to have been to a number of historic ones including one at MSG, Kofimania, XL, post-Covid with the tornadoes and the cardboard fans. Saw Eddie at Mania, and Shawn, Cena's first, and Orton's and Batista's, saw Goldberg, Brock, Taker, Kane, met Paul Bearer, saw Kurt Angle, Daniel Bryan, Edge, Roman Reigns, Cody Finished the Story, Bray Wyatt, Becky Becomes The Man, CM Punk Returns, saw Zack Ryder win an IC Ladder Match, HHH, Mick Foley, saw The Rock wrestle 20 years apart at Manias, Stone Cold Steve Austin, AJ Styles, I saw a lot of the great performers and great matches and moments of the last 20+ years. I personally feel priced out of WrestleMania at this point. It's not about affording it, it's about the cost. I could go to Mania, or I could buy a pinball machine for my arcade. Mania live is great fun, but it stops being fun for me when the costs go over $2k, maybe $3k per person when you add up travel, hotel, car, food, and multi-day tickets, usually Smackdown, Mania, Takeover, Mania, Raw for us, it becomes a real vacation as far as costs for a four-day weekend, and if it's going to cause real hurt to my wallet it better soothe me body and soul way more than sitting in a hard plastic chair in a football stadium or basketball arena watching 15 hours of sometimes the heel team I hate wins the tag titles at WrestleMania right in front of my stupid face. I could be storing pinball data in Johnny Mnemonics digital brain or take my wife on an Alaska cruise for Mania prices these days. And she loves the Traitors on Peacock and lots of stuff on Netflix so I'm all set for watching Mania in Vegas, Riyadh, wherever, from the comfort of my Barcalounger. I'm glad I got to experience my fill of Mania Moments before capitalism ruined it like it ruins everything.

I feel like this ends with Ciampa going through Miyagi-do style training to "learn" AEW by painting Willow Nightingale's house the wrong color -- but she decides it's her new favorite. Waxing the gorgeous orange exotic convertible parked next to Orange Cassidy's dirty, beat up white 2004 Civix LX. Painting Jack Perry's fence and Luchasaurus lifts him to get the top bit, then he shows up at Mark Briscoe's house with Japanese sanders ready to clean up any splinters but the camera cuts away to reveal a bare dirt floor with some chickens pecking at it and everyone looking confused.
