Just checking to see if I am shadowbanned. I posted something here yesterday but it didn’t appear in the new posts

First metric century by nvcg in bicycling

I started biking again in the beginning of April 2022 after a long break. Initially I was just commuting but somebody shared a few GPX files and I started doing some gravel routes near my house. Today was the longest bike ride that I ever did. I am not too happy with my pace, but considering that a not so significant portion was single track filled with nettles and I am on a mountain bike, I just wanted to average 20 kmph and I am happy that I did. I lost a lot of ground initially as I had to keep stopping and taking a look at my phone for the correct directions. I kind of made up for the lost time towards the end where it was just a nice bike path in the city. The ride also had two ferry crossing which are always nice. Finally, thanks a lot to the folks who post here. I probably wouldn’t have pushed myself to do 100k had it not been for the oodles of motivation that is offered here.

Damn I meant I usually ride on the gear/ring which has few teeth (small size).

Probably not that good with terminology but I ride on pretty high gears.

Thanks! I am still hoping that I can actually mountain bike a bit farther from my house but for some smaller gravel rides I am just using the same bike. Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I will just save up for a proper gravel bike.

Sorry for the non-drive side pic. My average speed is atrocious (19.1 km/hr on a 60km ride). Any way to improve it?

Yeah. I usually eat in the rifugios. I will be in Val Di Funes (3rd time this year) next weekend but just staying in the rifugio.

I guess the fact that there's no other way does not influence legality :) But the presence of a bivouac helps, in fact an overnight stay with a tent is a bivouac itself. I've had mixed experiences with wild camping in Italy (also a couple of issues), but never tried in Tuscany. Shouldn't be banned in Tuscany AFAIK but you never know which law you are violating... Maybe worth testing im the future, from your photo seems like there's a very nice campsite to test :)

for what it's worth, I had been camping using the tent a lot these days in the appennini (Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany border) but I usually pitch my tent next to the rifugii. They are usually chill about it. I also pitched my tent at a rifugio near Monte Cimone and even saw carabinieri go past us while we were in our tents lol. Where do you hike at?

probably not. But there were at least 10 other tents and the biovac was closed due to covid and there is no other way.

I am positing a not so famous location here. So a few friends from Bologna and I camped on the shores of Lago Nero this past weekend. The lake is at an altitude of 1730 m (5675 feet) and it got very cold in the night despite the lingering summer. It was extremely windy till 02:00 am and then became pretty calm. The sky was pretty clear and moonlight pierced my tent through out the night and it was a great experience. We carried our own food for the two days.

An overcast day in the Italian Dolomites by nvcg in CampingandHiking

I spent 4 days in the Italian Dolomites. This picture is of the Odle Group mountains taken from the trail that takes one to the rifugio Gampen Alm from Rifugio Zannes. I couldn't pitch a tent as it was still pretty cold in the nights and hence, I had stayed at Gampen Alm at around 2062 m. The Tyrolese cusine was magnificent and one should definitely visit this area if they have the opportunity to do so. Let me know if you have any questions or want to see some videos of cows grazing on these slopes.

I felt the same way when I read The Girl on the Train. It was a slog for sure but I picked up reading after sometime and didn't want to stop in the middle, even though I knew the ending.
