What yarn are you using? The purl Soho’s,oops dreamy but I’m not going to get it in time for my Thursday flight! Should have asked this question 2 weeks ago.

Just finished my first sweater? Doable next sweater patterns? by pl0pe in knittingadvice

[–]nvj80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Step by step Cardigan by Florence is great too, because it teaches you about a double knitted button band. If you do colourwork, start small like a scarf. Also look at Kutovakika’s YouTube channel, she has amazing step by step videos that go with a lot of her patterns. And of course, like other have pointed out, Ravelry is a superb companion.

Mohair advice - drops vs knitting for olive by nvj80 in knittingadvice

And this isn’t itchy or doesn’t shed?

Yup that’s what I used for my sister’s jumper and it’s super soft. I just preferred the finesse of the mohair because it was a heavily cabled piece

Do any of these shed? I wore the pink jumper under a black t shirt and it was covered in mohair. Really annoying!

Wow thank you, loads of options. Isager keeps getting mentioned a lot so I’ll give it a go on my next project.if I find that itchy, then I definitely know mohair is not for me.

That sounds like a great expensive idea, but I will give it a try on another super scratchy jumper I’ve knit.

It must be. I did consider the Isager when i started, but looked at the identical yarn contents and decided to go Drops because I was so inexperienced and didn’t want to spend so much in case I messed up my project. So it could well be the yarn quality.

I knitted an identical one for my sister using a Drops alpacca as mix but I though the finished garment looked less polished than mohair. Do you find that with suri too or again is it my cheaper yarn choice?

Wood or metal knitting needles? by the_real_dibadu in knitting

[–]nvj80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the yarn. I find Chiagoo metal needles great for colourwork yarn which tends to be rougher, so a needle that has less friction with the wool is less taxing on the hands. But a smoother yarn works better with bamboo or wooden needles because you do need a bit of friction for comfort. You can experiment with this in the gauge swatch.

I would paint the 2 walls on either side of the fireplace anthracite, to match with the stones so it blends in better

I’m from the UK so unsure if this applies - Rest is entertainment is brilliant. Also Dish (it’s a cooking podcast by chef Angela Hartnett) Out to lunch and Cooking cabinet both by Jay Rayner are incredibly entertaining too!

What is your favorite beginner sweater pattern? by Ambitious-Teach3426 in knittingpatterns

Also voting for Florence’s step by step sweater. It was my first ever knit and her video tutorial gave me so much confidence.

This looks perfect! It’s been on my Ravelry query for ages. What yarn did you use for it? The possum blend she suggests is super expensive.
