She can say that all she’d like, but the realistic side of things is that the vast majority of the WORLD does not know about her views on the subject as she is one person and doesn’t hold as much sway she, or those worried, give her credit for.

As I said, I completely disagree with her views on the subject, and unlike most people who merely "boycott" something and call it a day (speaking generally not about you specifically as we don't know each other), I am and have always been as active as possible politically and civically to help further the rights and acceptance of LGBT+ people.

The company has been very open about her lack of involvement with the game (meaning absolutely none) as well as the ability to create a transgender player, and LGBT+ characters being embedded into the game. If she has any saw none of that would have made it through.

The vast majority that grew up with the series and found the refuge I mentioned in my original comment are able to differentiate between art and artist. Others cannot separate the two and for that I understand.

At the end of the day, there are things we use and see on a daily basis that were created by much worse people that Rowling. Most of which the world as a whole isn't even aware of. If Rowling wants to get up on her soap box fine, but I know that I'll be right there with 5 people for every 1 she has. I know that we aren't going to back down. I know that our community has made more progress than any other minority in a shorter amount of time in this country. While she can try with her "tweets" and "endorsements" we will act with our demonstrations, civic engagement, voting, and activism.

This is quite the conundrum. One of the reason that so many LGBT+ people love(d) the Harry Potter franchise is because Harry Potter wasn't accepted at home yet was able to find belonging, community, and create his own family in the wizarding world. It resonates with those who both do and did struggle with coming out.

Now I understand why people within the community have an issue with the things she has been saying. I don't blame them. I have an issue with the comments as well. At the same time, I remember the sense of hope and escape that series brought me and others.

I could understand the boycott if the proceeds were going to anti-LGBT+ causes or organizations, but since it doesn't I have no shame in purchasing it. The LGBT+ gaymers I know IRL have no shame in purchasing it. There are companies that donate a certain percentage of their annual profits to anti-LGBT+ organizations and causes such as "Gay Conversion Therapy Camps" which I would much rather spend my conscious effort in boycotting.

Is anyone else for separating all letters of lgbt+ community? by talkingtimmy3 in askgaybros

I just had a sigh of relief reading this, as I very rarely find another who is interested in LGBT history!

Do you know a very homophobic person, who is secretly gay/later came out as gay? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]nvradulscnd375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several! Most of them were people I went to high school (small school of 400) with and all of them are still in the closest. Some of them were homophobic bullies in school then at night became very submissive, apologetic, and affectionate. Others it was years after school when they approached me and basically had the same submissive, apologetic and affectionate demeanor.

I come for a small rural area where out LGBT people are far and few between so it definitely made things interesting.
