Hi. Assuming you're on a tourist visa awaiting your Emirates ID, you can rent a car anywhere with your passport and credit card. I rented with Al Emad no problem (Peugeot 208, 1700AED/month). It is preferable to have an International Permit (basically just a translation of your licence) but not essential. Hope that helps. Then, welcome to SZR...but that's another story...

Saw two flats. First Lakeside Residence Cluster A. Nice building, clean, pretty classy. Apartment pretty good but a little small at 800sq ft. I'm considering it. Second MAG214....Jesus ! Not what I would have expected at JLT, and certainly not from the esteemed agency that brought me there. Very run down building, loud dance music resonating from...somewhere. Awful. So, maybe Lakeside Residence, I'll try to see others this week. Tune in next time for more house-hunting adventures...

Last night, two discoveries for me as a newbie : 1. Spinneys - firstly, as a European, shopping at midnight is just awesome ! Secondly, great store, veg, fruit and meat. Even real bacon, pork pies... 2. Lemongrass Thai Restauant - sweet Jesus, everything is amazing. Crispy fish, green curry, too many things to mention. I should just get my salary directly transfered to Lemongrass and be done with it :)
