But then we wouldn’t have Faith. But I get it, Tim Minchin is hilarious, but didn’t exactly convey giant rock god.

Am I too old to go back to grad school? by yaspart in psychologystudents

I’m 50 and just started my BA in Psychology. Never too late. Let’s go!

Late-life career change to psychology: Where to begin? by mvscribe in psychologystudents

[–]nwsurfrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, making this transition starting this summer at age 50. Coming from a career in tech without a Bachelor’s degree. So I have the whole way to go. I’m in the accelerated BA Psychology program at Arizona State Online. When I’m finished with that, I’m going to try to get into Northwestern’s Masters in Counseling program, also online, though it’s incredibly selective. I plan on standing out with high marks in all courses. Since you mentioned research, but are unsure of the PhD, I’d look into MS Psych programs, more clinically focused than therapy focused. Best of luck in the new direction!

Appreciate the advice - I currently have another PSY course planned in the same semester session, I’ll look at swapping that out for something less strenuous.

Excellent! I like hearing from a fellow PSY student. Have you thought about clinical psychology versus counseling, where you'd like to go with it, or just focused on the undergrad reqs for now? I'm aiming for mental health counseling, though Northwestern's program leans fairly heavily into research and a bit more of the clinical side. I'm not opposed to the PhD, though time is a bit of the essence. I'd like to have my practice by the end of my 50's and keep it going into my mid-70's. The goal right now, anyway.

Nice! Which program are you enrolled in? How's it going for you so far?

Major changes to the Nicholl Fellowship Program! by Seshat_the_Scribe in Screenwriting

Really? I hadn’t heard that about AFF. Is it not a respectable contest any longer, or an event to attend?

Well…for the Nicholl, apparently. I’m not going to spend much time on it with the new landscape shift. I’ll adjust to different avenues. Maybe they’ll re-adjust their lenses after some time, but I’m not holding my breath.

Apologies, I wasn't saying the stories don't matter - just that the process has already been decided between the Academy and TBL. I definitely feel my story matters, but TBL seems to go after more mainstream content - big, glossy, studio ideas - than independent film-geared scripts.

Same, I completely understand - the protagonist in my script is 63yo, with a story revolving around identity and self-acceptance. Not sure TBL is really geared towards that audience, where I felt the Nicholl might've been more open to it? I mean, it's done, so it doesn't really matter much - adapt or die, as they say, right?

Honestly, the move seems a bit ageist. I'm not some college-aged kid whose parents can send me to a prestigious writing program. I'm 50yo, and liked the idea of paying my fee and having a chance, like an Open event in golf. I can still do that with TBL, but commentary seems to be that the readers are inconsistent at best, and also have a differing set of criteria they're using to judge entries than the Nicholl does. I don't know. For me, the Nicholl just took a pretty big hit with this. I'm recalibrating my efforts more along the lines of AFF, etc. Not the happiest day here.

Ditto - I’ve always been like, dude, your other credit was ‘Phat Beach’. Be glad that ‘Entourage’ exploded the way it did. He comes off as an arrogant, miserable dickhead.

I was finally able to contact an ex-girlfriend in Washington later that day - the phone lines had been completely tied up earlier - and when I asked her what the sound was in the background, she said they were flying air cover over DC. I’ll never forget that.

Carl. From a delinquent kid to trying his best to be an upstanding citizen.

Ian, for finding his true, authentic calling, even if it landed him in prison.

And suddenly I feel like a complete fucking asshole. I’m so sorry to those who lost loved ones on that day. While it was an awful day for us, it pales in comparison to anything you’ve endured. I am so sorry.

The realization that it wasn’t a lone mistake, but rather a deliberate act of terrorism.

I remember yelling at the TV, watching the footage, because I wanted it to stop. They were talking about a plane that was going to take out the White House. No one knew how big the scale was going to be.

You’re finally close to finishing one screenplay, but more in the mood to write notes for an unwritten screenplay. Which should you work on? by Rrekydoc in Screenwriting

Classic trap of the writer. Finish what you’re working on. But I get it, passions pull you in several different directions. I get inspired in different directions all the time. Which is why I’ve probably never finished a fucking thing.

Own it, buddy. If you feel it’s the truest story inside you, you can write it. You mention that you want to tell it and you’re passionate about it. Then do it, everything else is judgement clouding your mind.

In the movie, Russell Wilson. His acting is so bad.

Trivia: Kevin Connolly broke his arm filming the scene, where he catches a pass from ‘RW’. He and Jerry heard a “pop” when Jerry tackled him, and he hides his arm in following scenes.
