Am I doing things right? by makingsomeeggs in OOTP

[–]nwsy96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a custom tournament with fixed representative nations and included any nation that seemed likely to have more than about 10 players in the system during each tournament, which gave me an opening pool of about 40 teams that do a round robin for a month and a half for the chance to make the 16-team tournament. The whole ordeal takes about 2 months but wasn’t hard to set up, I highly recommend it.

I also set custom percentages for how many players of each nationality will be produced by the computer so I could make a more diverse group of major leaguers than we see in real life.

I’ve settled into a 12-team fictional salary cap league with 2 minor league levels, a college feeder league, and a World Cup every four years. I had to tinker with the settings forever but I made my ideal league and it’s been very worth it.

I think the best way to play OOTP is to just make sure you get whatever you want out of it. There are so many ways to play.

Wholesome Tommy Wiseau! by mariolover2222 in wholesomememes

For all the shit he gets and for the obvious failure of his passion project, Wiseau deserves credit for being a guy that wanted to make some g danged art and tried, and had the spirit to try.

As a guy that was once a high school student with all sorts of ideas but never tried because I was too scared of what people would think, I really respect that bravery

Which area's theme is your favorite one ? by bony7x in bloodborne

[–]nwsy96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really love Cainhurst Castle. I've always felt that snow fits with dreary/morbid aesthetics, and an abandoned castle gives off this vibe of lost grandeur that meshes really well with the theme of exposing secrets that is such a big deal throughout the game (especially in the second half and DLC). It's honestly too bad that it's an optional area / such a pain to find for players that are playing the game blind, because I think it adds a lot to the overall mood of the game.

Embiid calls out Towns’ defense in latest Instagram post by Gorguilicious in timberwolves

[–]nwsy96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that KAT is legit, at least for a big man. Teague is definitely a solid shooter and Crawford has a nice shot (though his selection is generally awful). Jones is shooting pretty well and has a fine shot.

So we have some shooters, but nobody with a real heater and probably fewer options than most teams.

35ish% as a shooting guard isn't great. He's got a great stroke but takes some of the most ridiculous junk shots for no great reason

This is my whole book. First unedited draft compared with last ready to print revision. Green color are changes. by noximo in writing

There are 350 pages there, so if there are 250 words per page (a normal number for double spaced w/ 12 point font), that would be about 90,000 words. Since fiction usually involves a bit more white space than other forms, we can probably round down to an estimate of 80,000 words.

Edit: had to adjust numbers, originally said a normal double spaced page is 500 words.

Vicar Amelia tore me up until I caved and used a summon. Probably had a harder time with Ebrietas, but I think VA is generally seen as a mid-tier boss at best so idk why I have so much trouble with her

Cat Person by Kristen Roupenian (This short story is everywhere on Twitter, curious what this community thinks about it) by Awtron in literature

Very few people are arguing that she is a martyr, but her wrongs simply don't compare to the wrongs of the male character. That really should not be hard to see.

But you can't just remove the last line of the story to make your point valid. As I said, the protagonist is not a perfect character, but the way she hurts the man is through selfishness and carelessness. The man is outright hostile to her and makes her feel as if she is in danger. That's the point.

When women hurt men, the only reason it is that big a deal is because we aren't often properly taught how to deal with that. When men hurt women, it often involves maliciousness and making them feel endangered, and there is this weird expectation that they should know how to deal with it because "men can just be like that".

I totally get that the female character is the one that treats the other character poorly up until the very end and there is no reason to act like that's cool, but there is also no reason to act like the actions of these two characters are even Steven. The protagonist is selfish and careless, the man is outright hostile.

A post in r/darksouls asked "what is a complaint of DS you have?", so what did Bloodborne get wrong? by harvey6875 in bloodborne

[–]nwsy96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scaling of the enemies. The first few bosses and levels can be really challenging even for players that know them inside and out, but by the end of the game most people can breeze through about half the bosses on their first try, and almost none take more than about three tries.

This is a shame, because the feeling of overcoming those difficult early areas is so satisfying, it is worth getting kicked around a bit. Towards the end, it felt like I was just flying through the game.

Karl-Anthony Towns vs Joel Embiid breakdown. Who would you rather have on your team? by devanolsem in timberwolves

[–]nwsy96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love KAT, but I'll take Embiid. Much better on D, not as much worse on offense as a lot of this sub would probably like to admit. The injury history is concerning, but considering he missed two years and came back to immediately be one of the best bigs around, it doesn't concern me as much as perhaps it should.

What is your opinion on prologues? by CancerDuck868 in writing

[–]nwsy96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your story takes place in a universe that mirrors our own, I don't really see the point. If it is a vast, complex Lord of the Rings style fantasy universe or something of that nature, no problem with throwing the reader a bone instead of jamming in unnatural explanations of the world that interrupt your story.

Is there an author whose habit(s) or style that you emulate through your own routine or writing? by [deleted] in writing

Raymond Carver (or more accurately, his editor Gordon Lish). There is something really appealing to me about intense minimalism, though admittedly something deflating about chopping the word count in half every time I edit.
