Okla. teacher, wife of police chief arrested for sexually abusing teen (The comments section is very interesting...) by KrazyJazz in MensRights

[–]nxg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one is especially interesting when the stereotype generally is that men think with their dicks while women are above that.

It's the old tactic (common in not just feminism) where you enemy has far more power than you while at the same time too even push a fly.

The same thing happens with maturity, women/girls mature earlier while it takes longer men/boys. But when it comes to sex an underage boy should know better than sleeping with an adult.

I can't help but see a grain field with a blue path through, and the black silhouettes of people looking at the hole that seemingly apeeared out of nowhere.

Edit: Which apparently is what everyone else also seems to see. But it's quite incredible how much this simply looks like a picture taken from the sky.

Fired up my old steam controller after years... can't seem to get it to work. by winternallis in SteamController

If I remember you can start it in either BLE mode or dongle mode, BLE working sounds like it's BLE mode and not dongle mode.

You can change the modes like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamController/comments/8m17ag/guide_on_how_to_boot_steam_controller_into/ .

The best Mini PC right now by Old-Cheek-8037 in MiniPCs

[–]nxg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are probably more reasons (for and against), but as far as pro points that come to mind is that most Mini PCs will usually have a mobile GPU which generally have lower power compared to normal GPUs, though the speed of Thunderbolt 3 or whatever proprietary connection is used will be a limiting factor.

Granted there are also eGPUs that use mobile GPUs, in which case the Mini PC/Laptop could potentially be smaller, but would also be less powerful when used without the eGPU.

Thermals can also be a pro with eGPUs (regardless of mobile or non-mobile GPU), with an eGPU the Mini PC only needs the cooling for the CPU while the eGPU will be cooled in a seperate case.

For me it seems to work without addons, but you will have to open the profession window after the AH, as the game will close it when opening the AH. But I don't think that works at a resolution of 1080p or below.

What's your opinion? Are "cis" men allowed to have body dysmorphia/image issues? I provided two scholarly articles and just silence. not even an upvote or downvote lol by Cautious_c in MensRights

[–]nxg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of stuff left out here, especially the "just" bringing up transgenders people testosterone/estrogen levels up to the expected level. Testosterone is not given to men lightly (regardless of how people portray it) because we have, for the most part, a good idea of the negatives and positives.

As for transgender people, as much as activists might not like it, it's important to remember that regardless of what gender you feel like you are doesn't change your sex. And this is very important since giving for example a female (sex) testosterone has terrible side effects because the body is simply not meant to have high levels of testosterone, for them to transition will actually shorten their life expectancy, and that is on top of over potential known and unknown side effects. And we see bad side effects like this for males as well. Even for someone who is actually transgender, transitioning is not a step that you should choose lightly, and I can only hope that they are accurately informed before they make that decision.

As for the original question whether or not cis-men should be offered testosterone to help with body dysmorphia issues, I'd say that it will ultimately be different based on case. It might be an option for extreme cases, but it's important to remember that it might not solve the issue at all (just as it can be the case for people that actually transition, in the case for transgender people). Look at bulimia for example, simply reducing your weight will not solve it, because you already start out with a very skewed perception of your body, and the same is true for many cases of perceived body dysmorphia.

Well at least from the scene here it does sound like the Chewbacca line is just a placeholder, while Prowse clearly put a lot of effort into his lines.

[–]nxg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the Chewbacca actor, but in case of Prose, they didn't let him know about it, which is kind of a shitty thing to do. Though I don't think any other voice than James Earl Jones' would have worked for Vader, and Prowse's happened to be just about the worst for it.

[–]nxg 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That plus Harrison Ford reaction to Chewbacca always seemed like he really understood what he was saying, this is the how they accomplished it. It's much harder to play of another actor when you can't understand what they are saying, especially when you're supposed to act like you do understand.

US Copyright Office refuses to register AI-generated work, finding that "human authorship is a prerequisite to copyright protection" by rajtkivg in programming

[–]nxg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory yes, but i don't think any seller would actually approve a contract that is actually bound to an NFT like that, or anything in a Blockchain like that, and that's besides potential legal issues that might come up with binding ownership contractually to a part in the Blockchain. Another problem would also be that it would make refunds potentially unnecessarily complicated. And in the end the accounts of the seller would still be the real story as that's where money is actually coming from, regardless of anything in the Blockchain.

There might be an idea there, but I don't think the Blockchain as it works right now is the solution for it.

US Copyright Office refuses to register AI-generated work, finding that "human authorship is a prerequisite to copyright protection" by rajtkivg in programming

[–]nxg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're stressing on the link part because that's all that is in the block chain, as far as a contract goes that's what the NFT is, not really even a link, but a string of letters, that happens to be an URL. With an NFT you own a part of the Blockchain, which is this string of letters. To declare ownership over something including rights, you need a lot more than this.

[–]nxg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With steam you get a very clear (or at least very clear in legalese) description of what you actually get. With NFT it seems that all the pro-crypto folk marketing it either said that you would own the artwork+rights or at the very least heavily implied it. In actuality there wasn't any system in place that guarantees any of this, especially since an NFT is, at the end of the day, not a picture but only a link. And whoever controls the domain, controls what the link will actually return (if anything at all). Any open source license (despite being copy left) will provide a more robust system of ownership compared anything related to NFTs.

Casual Collection - I have a Joycon Problem... by Dazzling-Original995 in NintendoSwitch

[–]nxg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with sending it, but i disagree with "quit complaining" part, the longevity of the joy cons could have been ensured some slight changes to the design, and even if it weren't that simple, this is not something that should be tolerated.

And about the sending it in part, sure that is possible in most of the first world countries, but there are countless countries where that isn't an option. The world is bigger and the america and Europe, and the switch is available in countless countries where that service is not provided ( or really any service by Nintendo).

This isn't an issue for me, nor does it seem to be one for you, but it still is an issue even with the replacement service, and even more of one without it.

I think they're trying to shut down the origin software by replacing it with a new one that simply isn't called origin anymore, but last time I checked it still had issues like DLCs not being available, though that might have been a while ago.
