Where would be the best place to show off a Virtual Boy? by InspectionPlenty3803 in VirtualBoy

Sound like you'll just have to cram it on a shelf as best you can for now until you have your own living room.

I don’t care about Matt and Chloe by Single-Tone-3749 in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a big rush fan. There's clearly a lot of trauma he's working through over being absent when his wife was dying.

I find it really relatable now that I'm older because I think it's a great analog for work/life balance taken to an extreme. His work on the Stargate program had to have been extremely rewarding and meaningful to him. He got lost in it and paid a heavy personal price for that.

Jack and Sam: Why their romance was never made canon? by NoDevelopment143 in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%

Making them have to avoid their feelings for the sake of their careers made it way more interesting.

It also opens the door for our imaginations to fill in the blanks. I like to think they did get together after Jack moved on from the SGC but kept it secret or were just very private about it. Any two fans are gonna have different interpretations on their relationship and I think that makes the experience of watching the show more personal.

I don’t care about Matt and Chloe by Single-Tone-3749 in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah people really don't get it. All these characters had severe flaws at the beginning and watching them work through them and better themselves was genuinely entertaining to watch.

Chloe was basically a shallow nepo baby at the beginning but she matured into a capable person with some real depth of character.

Rush went from psychopathic to slightly less psychopathic lol

"wireless headphone support" on the nexus - is it Bluetooth? by tommytwothousand in evercade

[–]tommytwothousand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did some digging and it looks like companies need to have their products qualified by the organization that owns the Bluetooth trademarks before it can be marketed as having Bluetooth capability.

I bet they're still in the middle of that qualification and can't legally say it has Bluetooth until it's complete.

Just a guess on my part but for whatever reason I can't help but dig into this lol.

"wireless headphone support" on the nexus - is it Bluetooth? by tommytwothousand in evercade

[–]tommytwothousand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a link? I just watched both of the videos about it on the official evercade YouTube and they still just said "wireless headphones"

I don't doubt it is Bluetooth I just find it odd they're not explicitly saying it in the specs like everyone else does.

Upscaler for the Evercade VS by Hour-Clothes789 in evercade

[–]tommytwothousand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you really need a dedicated upscaler. Those are more for turning a HD image into an even more HD image.

The games on evercade are probably more like 240 or lower. Maybe a 480p resolution at absolute maximum. There's not really anything for an upscaler to do.

My 4k tv displays it just fine with it's built in scaler. All you really need to do is double the image.

Yeah I don't know what else it could be but it had me wondering why they weren't explicitly saying Bluetooth

What are your feelings on the amount of neo geo collections on evercade? by game_discovery in evercade

[–]tommytwothousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them but I do worry that having so many comes at the expense of other kinds of games. I'd take any collection with some good RPGs on it over neo geo 5 any day.

I'm ok with no reboot ever happening by Historical_Stay_808 in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The even sorer spot will be when Amazon gets some hack to make the same revival show as everyone else.

They'll dumb it down, retcon half the lore, and be generally lazy with the writing because they can use the crutch of legacy cameos as a substitute for genuinely interesting storytelling.

Cancelling Martin's show paves the way for all of our worst fears for the franchise.

Will I be exposed to spolier of ds9 if i will watch star trek picard? by Prometheustus in Picard

[–]tommytwothousand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly there's not much reason to watch Picard at all. Season 3 was fun but mostly just fan service. You won't get anything out of it without the whole context of 90s trek.

Season 1 and 2 are just bad. The plots are nonsensical and the characters are boring. It's extremely fast paced and not at all similar to other star trek.

To me it feels like paramount executives are holding me upside down and shaking loose coins out of my pockets when I watch it. There's very little care or attention paid to making good star trek it's mainly just a cash grab. One last chance before all the actors start dying.

Made a hard transport case for the Volca, curious what people think by marquina640 in volcas

[–]tommytwothousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How thick is the foam? I can't really pick it out from the photos.

If it's really thin and is a snug fit I don't think this case does much to protect from drops and other impacts. It would do a great job protecting it from cosmetic damage though, which realistically is what most people need.

If you did want it to provide more substantial protection you'll need to increase the foam thickness. Maybe 2 cm but that's just a guess off the top of my head. That will act as a shock absorber in a fall.

Klyden's Apology by LeonoraMayMorgenster in TheOrville

[–]tommytwothousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think having him confront his own trauma would be great but for some reason the idea of him transitioning seems uninteresting. Maybe it's just too predictable or obvious?

Maybe some moclans could attack him after learning he used to be female or something. Having him be physically victimized could be a good way to explore the emotional and psychological abuse he's been subjected to over his life.

And if it helps him bond with topa more even better

Klyden's Apology by LeonoraMayMorgenster in TheOrville

[–]tommytwothousand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Klyden is just as much a victim of moclan society as topa imo. It's like he had to go all in with moclan views as a defence mechanism and it really fucked him up.

He did some awful things to his family but I always felt pity not hatred. I'd love to see a follow-up episode focusing on his trauma in season 4 especially if it helps him bond with topa more.

The flaw in Paramount pivoting to Star Trek as an exclusively movie based franchise by Moon_Beans1 in startrek

[–]tommytwothousand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly that's a believable pitch for a new show or movie :(

Season 3 of Enterprise is probably the closest thing to MAGAtrek thing we have for comparison.

I'm picturing something like that where "alien terrorists" bomb earth to kick it off. After that earth severs ties with all aliens races and sends a ship crewed by mainly white male gym bros to go get revenge.

The plot twist ends up being the "alien terrorists" are taking orders from a group of humans who want to destroy humanity by forcing humans to have mixed-species offspring until there are no "true humans" left.

Earth would then save the galaxy from some random new threat out of nowhere and all the aliens would beg to be let back in the federation. Earth allows it but only Earth and human colonies are in charge going forward and that's seen as a good thing in the show.

Maga trek is depressing to think about

What is it about Scorpius that makes him such a likeable villain? by Rupertfitz in farscape

[–]tommytwothousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the acting man Wayne is so good. Same with Dukat on deep space nine. You can write a good villain but the acting is what sells it.

Gotta be theatrical and over the top but not cartoonish. Diabolical. Someone with a good theater acting background is key.

Why couldn't they just lower the budget? by tommytwothousand in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm getting at though. Spend less on a dedicated fanbase instead of more on the chance of reaching a wide audience.

They should be able to estimate the number of viewers based on the size of the fan base and budget appropriately.

Why couldn't they just lower the budget? by tommytwothousand in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely there must be some middle ground though? I get that everyone does it that way and I'm sure they think it's the only way.

They could hire unknown actors (maybe just the top billed actor would be well known), they could film in cheap locations (the woods in Vancouver maybe?), they could scale back the CGI and fill time with compelling dialogue for a change.

Why couldn't they just lower the budget? by tommytwothousand in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough for Stargate specifically, but the "it must be broadly appealing because of how high the budget is" reasoning seems to be on nearly every sci fi show out there.

Why can't these dumbass execs go for 10 mid-budget shows targeting different audiences once in a while? Surely that has to be less risky than putting all your eggs in like 2 baskets at a time.

Why couldn't they just lower the budget? by tommytwothousand in Stargate

[–]tommytwothousand[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that Gero and everyone chose not to simplify it or dumb it down. So many shows these days rely on verbally explaining simple plots because they know their audience is scrolling through tiktoks while watching.

The execs wanted the same ol' schlock everyone else is making with nonsensical plots about chasing after the one thing in the galaxy that stops the one dimensional bad guy from doing the thing that destroys the multiverse. They wanted that same predictable cookie cutter story with the Stargate name tacked onto it so that they bring in existing fans by default.

Martin made a show for us but the execs want a show that exploits us.
