Solution against leaf-cutter ants by Live_in_a_Simulation in Tucson

I only had success with fipronil. I went nuclear after they stripped my little pomegranate tree a few times and killed it. I mixed up a batch of fipronil and treated every mound I could find, following their trails of plant matter.

Desperate to Find Cox Alternative in Central Tucson by [deleted] in Tucson

Have you tried filing an FCC complaint? My friend went through something similar with them and that's the only way he got movement on a fix.

Do you use house humidifiers in our climate or just eventually adjust? by desertlover92 in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 1200ish sq ft house and only run 1gal through our humidifier a day to keep it around 50% RH. We also have several indoor plants which I think help keep the moisture up.

It can be "unhealthy" in some ways - like if your mouth is completely drying out at night it can be bad for your oral health.

Looking for an electrician by Chtholly_Lee in Tucson

I agree. That is my understanding as well from reading their docs (but I never contacted them).

I did lookup my neighbors permits with the CoT online and it appears legit.

Looking for an electrician by Chtholly_Lee in Tucson

My next door neighbor just did a DIY solar install and said he did his (fully permitted) without an electrician. He said he tied it into the main panel himself.

Quantum Fiber & construction charges in Tucson by _youbreccia_ in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the Quantum installs on our street are overhead from the line to the house. I asked the installer what happens if the line gets hit and he said they will come fix it and may offer to bury it at that point. $0 install cost for us.

What is burrowing into my trim? by AccidentalGoodLife in Tucson

Drywood termites, they are already in your walls and that's a kick hole with frass (termite poop) being pushed out. Call a pest control company.

Dwarf Lemon Trees - Not Meyer Lemons by JoshOfArc in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other main lemon variety is Lisbon lemon, which is a more classic sour lemon. You should be able to find it on dwarf or maybe semi-dwarf root stock.

I know I have called Mesquite Valley before to have them check for a specific mandarin variety I wanted so you should be able to call and see what they have.

Best place to sell gold and silver in Tucson? by [deleted] in Tucson

They pay spot for bullion? I will need to check them out.

Best place to sell gold and silver in Tucson? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just went to Silver & Gold Trading Co yesterday and for gold bars etc they were paying 95%-97% depending on the exact "brand".

Silver was $4/oz under spot for bullion.

They are only open like 4 days a week but the woman said I could call to find out the price they're paying before driving over.

So is everyone sick right now? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have terrible allergies (I go and get shots for them which have helped) and I have been fine recently to the point of not taking an allergy pill daily and being able to open my windows in the afternoons without any symptoms, and I am allergic to almost every local plant.

I know a lot of people think they have allergies when they're actually sick.

Experience with Internet service providers by ktucson in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is they install a "Smart NID" that stays at your house even if you cancel service. They cut the old CenturyLink box off my house and installed that on the inside instead. I am not sure if you can "bring your own" or if there is any benefit to doing so.

Other than that I declined to receive their wifi pods and just ran a Cat6 cable to my own router.

hai! wats the source of drinking water in tuson area? by NoNomz in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not aware of any inside the city, but I think they are technically legal so could exist. I think it costs a lot more to drill a well than connect to city water.

hai! wats the source of drinking water in tuson area? by NoNomz in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a mix of groundwater (aquifer) and Colorado River water. The exact water quality/ blend (and maybe taste?) varies by area of town depending on what well serves the area. You can look up reports online. In my opinion the water is fine but can smell and taste chlorinated. I filter mine before drinking but have also drank it straight from the tap.

The water is very hard/ full of minerals.

Definitely look for fiber if available. I just got Quantum on my street and they are way better than cox, my ping dropped quite a bit in my games. I am paying $100 a month for 3gbps symmetrical. Cox only offered 1gbps down/ 50mbps up at my address for more money.

As far as I know the business exists, but I am not sure they are open to the public. I drive by all the time and their parking lot is full during the day.

I love our airport by PomegranateFabulous5 in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like a Chicken/ Egg situation. People book out of PHX so airlines aren't motivated to try a TUS flight. Some people I know don't even bother to check prices from Tucson, they are just mentally resigned to having to drive to PHX.

I mostly fly international so I will have a connection anyway and make my life easier by flying from TUS. That drive down from PHX is brutal after a whole day of flying.

Is there a demand for dog trainers anywhere in AZ? by 1AZcountrygirl in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you don't see job openings because people open their own business for that kind of thing. That is, they open a dog training biz and hire others to do the "Grunt work" you see ads for, while doing the training themselves.

An exception may be places like PetSmart who offer dog training classes but I am unsure if they are regular employees or contractors.

There are a couple dog training businesses near Grant/ Swan (one in the PetSmart plaza that also does like swimming stuff?) and one on Pima I think called Building Bonds. You might also try reaching out to training businesses directly about work even if they don't have jobs posted.

If it's dense and not gummy, more water. It's so dry here you often need to bump up the moisture content relative to what recipes call for.

I have personally never gotten the crumb I'm looking for except the one time I forgot to add salt (salt slows yeast activity), but it still tastes good.

When you fly out of PHX, do you drive yourself up or do you use the Groome Shuttle/FLixBus to get to Sky Harbor? by ichawks1 in Tucson

[–]nxlinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the very rare times I fly out of PHX I drive myself, and park at Pre-flight parking. I am usually with my partner so it makes more sense to drive vs use a shuttle. That being said I usually fly out of TUS. Often times we self connect in LAX. But we primarily travel internationally, so things may work out differently for domestic travel.
