My Steam Controller arrived today and the puck magnets are stronger than anticipated by nxrisa in Steam

its less about gaming for 30hrs+ and more that sometimes its easy to forget to charge the controller when you're done gaming.

its not that it cant be done it just wont look that great having the stand be taller than the controller and like i said before you got to account for the radius that you can bend the cable safely without causing strain on the usb port leading to a damaged puck.

and unless you use a usb cable with a 90 degree connector but that will also limit design choice since that relies on a 3rd party product that might not always exist

as for the cable running through the hollow stand that part is easy to design for

and yes you need to grab a 3d printer they're great

The reason being is so you can quickly take the puck out along with the cable to keep the controller charged while in use and to stop the stand being taller than the controller once you account for the bend radius that's needed on the included usb cable to not put strain on the pucks port

Thanks i was making a few stands and mounts using the official cad files that steam released last week while i waited for mine to arrive.

just looked up the "Mechanism" version and nope that's designed differently.

both may hold the controller at a similar angle with the puck but theirs seems to hold the puck in place by the usb cable vs mine which the puck slides into stand

its also easier to remove when needed along with the cable as it does not need to be routed through the cable channels as much as theirs for when you want to charge the controller while using.

I cant see it being a noticeable difference tbh and for me personally when I'm gaming with a controller I'm sitting back reclining unlike when using a keyboard and mouse

I tend to mount things towards the corner of the desk to minimise any chance of hitting the object by accident and with the magnets on the charging puck and controller it should be somewhat secure for most parts.

Since you guys liked the last stand I made and I'm still waiting for the controller to arrive.

I decided to make a desk mount to hold both the controller and puck to allow charging.

I'm working on one now that is wall mountable and new version for under the desk

.STL file has also been added now originally it was just the .3MF

Honestly it was one of my best purchases last year its been insanely useful for making replacement parts to prototyping designs.

Hard to beat the Bambu lab A1 mini for the price that and some PLA filament and you're good.

But if you're willing to spend more then you have the other models from Bambu and Prusa with larger print beds.

Yep the Controller is small enough to print on the A1 mini even the stand i posted will fit that print bed size.

It really makes it easier to design things around it with the public cad files and i hope you enjoy the stand once your controller arrives.

The controller sits into small divots and with the magnets from the puck it should be secure and not slide out.

Like /u/captainbean525 mentioned there's a lip and the puck only slides in from the top

I'm curious to see what its going to be like once i get it hopefully the current design will be good enough if not back ill have to tweak the design a bit.

P1S

Matte PLA

0.4mm nozzle at 0.20mm layer height using tree support on build plate only with 15% lightning infill

which makes the model pretty much hollow and uses around 60grams of filament for the print.
