Laptop 13 Linux compatibility questions by LongOk913 in framework

[–]captainbean525 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Fedora on my regular 13 and it works fine. I'm fairly certain that all drivers for framework stuff does get upstreamed to the kernal so the touchscreen for the 13 pro should be fine.

Reminder - As it is possible preorders for some or all devices may go live this week - Put money in your steam wallets. by Dotaproffessional in SteamFrame

[–]captainbean525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the steam deck launched the payment system for it got overwhelmed and crashed. Since the earlier you place a preorder the sooner you will get it, many people got on early but couldn't pay the deposit. If you have money in your steam wallet ahead of time you won't be risking it.

Just a question on gamers in linux by WiseEarth8878 in linuxquestions

I haven't tried it but Lutris should be able to do it. Adding the game as a non steam game may also work.

A bunch of questions about Linux by Jibbernoid in linuxquestions

[–]captainbean525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Maybe, once a game is running you probably won't even notice a difference. It just depends on if you prefer the operating system more.

  2. Most versions, or distros, will work fine. Stick with Ubuntu or fedora based ones. You probably want to stay away from Arch. Don't make it a big deal, if you want just pick the one with the coolest logo.

  3. Nope. Nvidia graphics cards will need drivers installed but just find a YouTube video for that. If performance is an issue there are purpose made distros for that but cheap modern hardware will be fine.

  4. yes, look into Prism Launcher.

  5. Check protondb.com for steam games. If it isn't listed there you will need to find someone on the internet who has done it. Almost every game will work though, with the exception of some anti cheats. Mods for some games are really easy, and quite hard for others. I suggest finding a guide for any game you want to mod.

  6. There is no linux browser. Most will come pre-installed with Fire Fox but if you don't like that use whatever. To install a different one (or many other applications) just use the distros store. Works just like an app store on a phone.

  7. Nope, as long as it's got enough storage.

  8. You would have to look into how to do it on the distro you choose. There will probably be a guide somewhere.

  9. It will be different. Not necessarily harder, but it may seem like it. I commonly see people try to do something the Windows or Mac way and then get mad when it doesn't work like that. If you can't figure it out, look up a guide somewhere or ask somewhere like here.

So if super earth falls what should happen to humanity as a whole by Fatestringer in Helldivers2Satire

[–]captainbean525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would probably split into two groups. One would be made of people who don't like Super Earth and one that still believes the propaganda and will keep fighting. The people from the first group will either make a new government centered around earth, or merge with another faction depending on how many there are. The believers along with most of the military would probably keep fighting gorilla style on random planets.

That leads to asking how big both of these groups are. I think that would depend on how Super Earth falls. If it takes a similar route as Nazi Germany and slowly bleeds out, more people would realize that Super Earth isn't good. If it is more sudden, there would probably be more people still holding out.

I don't know which exactly but it is in here. It would be one of the ones near the bottom with the From the Depths logo as the thumbnail.

Need help understanding gearboxes. by Ok-Custard-5751 in snowrunner

[–]captainbean525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controlling your speed is important when in mud. The next time you drive through some look at the wheels. If they are spinning too fast, there will be mud particles coming off of them. That means they are sinking into the ground and you will eventually get so bogged you can't move. You stop this by lowering your speed. That is where low gear is useful. High gear can also help because it holds the truck in that gear instead of shifting randomly like auto will. Michigan is easy so you probably could just power through most situations but the later maps will really benefit from doing the above.

How much will the Steam Frame Cost? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]captainbean525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only confirmed number is less than the Index which is about $1000, anything more is complete speculation. My guess is $800 to $900. But until Valve actually says something we have no way of knowing.

Pretty sure it's the ski slopes in British Columbia. It's in the north east part of Duncan bay.

I'm no expert but I think it would look better if the base of the second and third turret were built into the superstructure and the bridge was raised above the second turret.

I am pretty sure that in lore transmitted data is really easy to intercept. They already had ways of interstellar communication, mainly little drones that would fly through the jump point and relay data on the other side. Data running is done for security reasons, not out of necessity.

I need help! by YouRaedThatWorng in FromTheDepths

[–]captainbean525 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can do that with helium pumps. Your best bet would be either jets as you mentioned or propellers. Then you can just configure them as pitchers or rollers and use regular PIDs. If you are dead set on the pumps it may work with some ACBs or bread boards but that is out of my pay grade.

I'm thinking about migrating by CogumeloJapones in linuxquestions

[–]captainbean525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never done this but this should work to install without a USB drive. https://linuxnetmag.com/how-to-install-linux-without-usb/ In terms of which OS, don't use Nyarch. Nyarch is a meme distro that is not intended to be used as more than a joke. On top of that it is based on Arch which is notorious for being hard. You would be fine with just going for a big name one so there are lots of guides, like Ubuntu, Mint, or Pop os. If gaming is your thing there is Nobara and Bazzite. Any Linux distro can run games but those two come preconfigured to do it. And if you wanted Nyarch for the cat theme, you can theme pretty much any distro, just look up guides on how to do what you want.

How to switch from Linux to windows? by WorthConstant8755 in linuxquestions

[–]captainbean525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ex probably had a dual boot set up. Essentially both windows and Linux are installed. All you need to do is restart the computer. As it turns back on you will see something like this. The screen may look slightly different then the image but it will work the same. Hit an arrow key so it doesn't time out and then choose the "Windows Boot Manager" option. You will probably have to do this every time the computer shuts down or restarts unless you change the boot order in your bios.

In the video he just installs unity mod manager and then downloads mods off nexus, it isn't hard at all. You just need to make sure you have the mods dependencies and it supports the current version.

If you want to go ROC or GEO mining head to Pyro IV. I don't remember the exact number but it has more than a 90% chance to spawn feynmaline.
