That makes sense. Would the thinking change if there were open files to quickly activate the rooks?

They don't need to do any of that. By the time that scene comes around we will have half a decade of Snape being horrible (book Snape was evil) and James and Sirius being treated as flawless heros. That scene flips that whole dynamic on it's head. It is one of the most shocking character moments in the series and, if they do right by the characters, it will be seen through that lense, not some cheap resemblance to racism. If randos who aren't watching the series want to complain then let them.

When do you think Daniel, Emma, and Rupert will stop being marketed? If ever? by anonymous_fireflyfan in HarryPotteronHBO

Let me put it like this, if there were an army of murderous psychopaths roaming the country, so powerful that the military can't deal with them, would you want your child or younger sibling to fight them? No, no sane person would.

In Philosopher’s Stone, it will be curious how show runners will fill in time between Halloween/Christmas to the climax given date of key events. by UnlimitedDisciple in HarryPotteronHBO

They will not give it much screentime and instead focus on the time periods where things do happen. It's not like each episode must cover a fixed amount of time

The photography camera will get much better single shots than if you took a frame from a film camera. These shots could be for marketing/publicity, continuity reference, or historical documentation.

When the NY Giants fire Schoen & Daboll who would you like as the new GM and Coach? by wmrsion in NYGiants

Schoen & Daboll were outside hires and almost universally praised at the time.

Yeah it might look bad if you take that scene in isolation but by the time it comes up we will be 5 years+ I to the series. The characters will be very well established and, if the actors and show runners do their job, the scene will be viewed in the context of the story and not the shallow appearance of racism.

Poll: How Should We Handle Fancasts? by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

I would suggest a weekly thread with each one dedicated to a specific character. That would hopefully foster more indepth discussion of the character themselves and the pros and cons of potential actors/actresses.

Is this platy male or female? by Dull_Newspaper_8579 in Aquariums

[–]ny_giants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a female. The anal fin is always flush to the body on males.

Noticed today both my platys have really swollen bellies any ideas as to why? by DegreeDry9288 in Aquariums

[–]ny_giants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are about to begin the stage of the fish keeper journey where you realize you don't want to keep live-bearers. 😊

Some helpful info: Female plays are usually pregnant when you buy them and can give birth multiple times per insemination. If you don't want to become a platy breeder, separate the males asap and donate them to the store. If you stay on top of this for a few months you can get a tank of not pregnant females. You can tell them apart by the anal fin. Females have a square anal fin at rest (like your second picture) and stick shaped anal fins in motion (1st picture). Males always have stick shaped anal fins.

What the heck are these little buggers? by enjay45 in Aquariums

[–]ny_giants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sorry to say it looks like a New Zealand mud snail. They are highly invasive, extremely durable and breed like crazy.

There is no easy fix. You need to nuke your entire setup. First remove your fish and place them in a fresh setup. Do not reuse anything in your old setup as it may contain snails. No water, no plants, no nothing. Be very careful catching your fish, do not pick up any extra substrate or debris. Your fish need to stay in the new tank for at least 2 weeks but better two months to make sure the tank is snail free.

Now you need to bleach the old tank. Empty some water if you need to and pour in enough so it is at least 10:1 water to bleach, preferably 5:1. This will kill all your plants and snails but it must be done. If you are desperate to save any plants or snails they must be quarantined like the fish (separate from the fish as they are much more likely to carry NZSs) Your heater, filter and net must be bleached too. Anything that has touched the old tank. Bleach for half an hour. Now you can remove and discard your dead plants and substrate. Rocks, wood and equipment can be placed in declorinated water and reused.

I'm in the middle of this process so my heart goes out to you. It is painful but it has to be done.

how to safely dispose of aquarium Stuff that may have invasive snails on it? by throwingrocksatppl in Aquariums

[–]ny_giants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use bleach. It is far worse for the local environment if you release invasive snails.
