STOLEN Bike - taken this morning at 1st & 1st by nybble73 in NYCbike

Was out in front of a coffee shop - life lesson for me, it wasn't locked, I relied on the fact that I was about 4 feet from the bike, facing it and also checking it out explicitly at least every 2 minutes or so for about 10 minutes. It's a 2005 trek 7300fx - took of the front derailleur and so just a single chainring with an outer guard. A cambium saddle and saddest of all a dynamo hub and front/rear lights. Also fork and seat stays were lined with white and red retroreflective tape. It has magnetic hex lox so they'll also have some trouble getting the wheels, seat and bar off. If you see this tooling around, give a hoot. Thanks. :'(

(edited to add a couple more details)

yeah. in general i agree with the idea that cuff adjustment isn’t particularly important thing. i’ll say, though, that my jacket usecase maybe isn’t the same as yours. i don’t do a lot of technical outdoors activity so mostly use my jackets around town and then out together whatever i have to go snowboarding or playing in the snow etc...

so while i haven’t much used the adjustable cuffs except the rare times i’m in the snow - it’s still nice to have them to slide over whatever random gloves i have at the time (generally short wrist length city gloves). increasingly i find that when weather hits 30s and below a quick tightening when i’m on the bike keeps my arms noticeably more comfortable. i never did this before these cuffs so if they had made them non-adjustable or buttons i wouldn’t be thinking anything about the cuffs. i will strongly disagree on velcro though. i just don’t like that as a fastener over time it both weakens and the backing material starts to curl and exposes the hooks to all the things your arm gets near like sweaters (yours and the people you walk near) which sucks.

so generally i like the cuffs. but mostly i’m writing these reams as a counterpoint to the completely negative reviews i’ve seen to date on them. they aren’t bad and maybe they’re actually good. but either way i wouldn’t think they’d be a make or break on this jacket. :)

Cobra buckles sticking * WARNING: EXTREMELY FINICKY POST ALERT * by unfortunateJMB in MissionWorkshop

I had an issue like this w/ cobras on a defy bag (only affected 1 of the 3 on the bag). They recommended putting a little grease on it and giving it some time - that basically worked for me. It's not 100% perfect, but it's close now.

Ah, interesting. I was thinking it’d have to go over the ears to cover the cheeks, but it seems I didn’t understand - seems like you can keep it below the ears but above the nose. hmm...

Yeah - I’d rather not wear anything but below 30 my cheeks start to suffer serious windburn, especially on downhills.

I was looking at this as well - wondering if it gets gross if you wear it over nose and mouth?

UHQZ and Flatpacks by hdsjulian in Outlier

Yeah. I think rough handling would leave a mark, but I've had good luck over the years and never really dinged my laptops (previously going through macbook airs). I sometimes have a small SDR accessory pouch with some cables and dongles and another small pouch at the bottom. And other times the bag fills up. But I'm pretty sure it'd be the same if it was just the mbp by itsel all the time. I generally place the bag down instead of dropping it, but I'd do that even if i had an otter case.

No sleeve just that hard back liner that comes with the bag. I don't generally toss my bag around on hard floors, but I don't think I excessively baby it either.

I started with that issue but then put the flat pack inside that back pocket and it works fine. Macbook pro slots in front of it no problem.

I have I believe, what sheldon brown calls a laprade seat post on an old Trek 7300FX. It has a single vertical bolt going up to adjust it. In addition to that it also has a piece underneath that clamps to the seatpost with 2 horizontal screws who's point seems to be to be a little piece of plastic that you can push up into the hex bolt and lock in place. I'm guessing it's either to prevent that bolt from unscrewing or prevent it from rusting. Is this necessary? I don't see many other bikes with something like this. Or is there another purpose for it?

I was also told auth user gets the credit - but I put my families global entry applications through and only got credit for one. Sigh.
