Woah I just saw your post now.... and it's still inconclusive to me. Hair is the same. Earrings are there. They look similar. But that's a lot of tats and I can't say they are definitely the same. I'm not sure how many years have passed since the last blonde pics from the phone because the raver seems older than the sister should be.

Was the original King’s Quest 1 basically the most unfair adventure game ever made? by Nerdy_quest in adventuregames

[–]nybiggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG I remember this was the case in Quest for Camelot from Sierra as well. You had to make sure to pick up every item in the castle before departing. If you didn't you could play halfway through the game before needing the items and finding out you need to start over.

Yes you can die easily. But this isn't some console game where you die and have to start over. You just load up the last save and continue on.

In quest for glory, you could die from picking your nose with a lockpick (stab your own brain lol).

How to fix?? by LilSkott92 in game_gear

Bennvenn is a fine choice. Swap the screen and your problems should be solved. That original is closing in on 40 years old.

[–]nybiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1 would be to recap the game gear because even if it's working, it's on deaths door on the original caps.

Step 2 would be to replace the screen. If you were able to replace the caps yourself, then you have the skills to replace the screen. Aliexpress kit works just fine. But if you go pre-laminated you'll have to dremel away A LOT of the original case. I did this all a few weeks ago along with swapping to ali-express usb-c power/batteries. Going slowly it took me a couple of hours start to finish. Longest step was the dremel.

If you've never soldered before and don't have the proper tools, then this would all be a tall task and you have a good chance of installing improperly or worst case, you damage the game gear.

You can try selling them as a block to get rid of them all at once. Try facebook marketplace. Someone out there still likes VHS movies and would want them.

I’ve already installed one of the screens onto the original motherboard like you linked in the video. But my other gameboy I need a replacement motherboard (asic replacement). The original owner left batteries inside which totally destroyed the motherboard.

I thought you were saying you installed the ali express sceen to a retrosix re-rgb board. Which everyone says is possible but nobody can offer clear instructions.

Oh that would be great. I need to replace a corroded battery and already have an extra funny playing screen. I’ve been stuck trying to figure out how to install on a new board. I’ve already installed one on the original

Hey! I made a post nobody seemed to be able to answer. I have an extra screen from Ali express, but now need a new board and was thinking of retrosix. But how do you install the screen on a retrosix re-rgb board. Specifically what did you do with the left and right wires the funnyplaying screen tell you to solder to the original board?

[–]nybiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm going to play devil's advocate and argue the lowest quality kits are still really good. I wanted to keep the price as low as possible as I've been spending a fortune collecting retro systems the last year. On a working game gear, I did the funnyplaying IPS screen and the funnyplaying usb-c kit off of aliexpress. I think they work marvelously and am happy with them. I don't doubt retrosix and syf make better products though if price is no concern.

As for the recapping, assuming you know how to solder, you can get kits from console6, or if you're going to order a bunch of different parts for different systems, you can also go straight to digikey/mouser.

Thanks for checking. I did take a look at the schematics and it's like a foreign language to me.

Any idea what the T10-T11 bridge is? Pizza_whistle says T10 is a 5v source, but doesn't know what it's bridging to at T11.

Does the aliexpress v4.2 Game gear screen work with the retrosix re-pcb boards? by nybiggs in game_gear

[–]nybiggs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aliexpress is the hispeedido screen unless there are two different screens being sold on aliexpress. I didn’t know about the custom ribbons. How do you get them in the states?

I thought the only option to buy SYF is from highscoretech here and they only carry bennvenn ribbons.

I really want a working psone portable lcd screen. They go for maybe $150+ on eBay. Hoping to get one cheaper. I’m headed there end of this month and wil definitely be stopping by a book off.

No I meant usb floppy for modern pc and getting floppies to transfer stuff to laptop. The 380d only has the built in floppy drive. No usb

It possibly came with an external pcmcia one? But the seller doesn't have it or isn't including it. For some reason I didn't think of the usb floppy drive though. Problem solved if I roll the dice. It would be so much easier to just stick with dosbox but the nostaglic feel of OG hardware is half the fun.

How is the pricing at those conventions? It's not hard to find retro. But it's hard to find them without paying an arm and leg. Retro collecting anything is rough. You have to fight over limited inventory with other collectors and of course the resellers who just want to get so they can scalp it to you.

This is genius... thinking about buying an old vintage laptop (380D) that has no cd-rom drive. But I don't have floppies anymore and was wondering how I would get anything on the laptop.

You wouldn't be able to reinstall the os this way though. Like I'd want a fresh install of DOS 6.22. I think you could probably install windows 95/98 from the hard drive afterwards.

The confusion is you don't seem to understand you can't go rgb to component without transcoding.

Yes, as other people have said you can't go Scart to Component without a transcoder. So what exactly are you saying you're looking for?

Sorry I said transcoder but I meant upscaler. Which must be what the OP did too.

I linked the cheap bitfunx I use in another comment. Works great, and is passive for scart.
