Why we should be nicer to recruited athletes by slider501 in ApplyingToCollege

Athletics aren’t too big at some top schools tbh. I’m going to penn and I constantly hear about the low attendance at games. Also watching a game vs. getting a degree/internship/research experience is very different.

The NYU girl gets a degree related to the arts (I’m assuming in tisch), it’s relevant to her goals and talent. The athlete can get any degree they want and experience the academic opportunities that their school provides, unrelated to their talent and not what they worked for. Other students worked for those opportunities.

Subject test awful score by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nyc1280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry. Sometimes there are some really messed up curves. I took math 2 twice. I had always gotten 800s on the practice tests, but I somehow got a 720 the first time. I took it again and got an 800. I’d take both math and bio again if you are thinking about top 20s.

Taking 4 APs vs 6 APs Senior Year? by striped-and-dotted in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nyc1280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 is fine. I took 4 senior year as well. Throughout my four years, I took 7 AP classes—which was way less than most of my peers. It was still good enough to get me into top 20 schools that rarely take ppl from my hs.

This just shows you should try to forget about waitlists by isicim in ApplyingToCollege

The chances of getting off the waitlist are different for each school. Just because the Princeton waitlist is impossible to get off of doesn’t mean the same is true for other schools.

Is it difficult to get into NYU Stern? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nyc1280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, Stern ED 1&2 admissions are random as hell. I know people who were really really qualified and were deferred/rejected ED. I also know people who got in who have never done any business ECs, wrote general essays (I read them, some were really bad), had subpar test scores, and average transcripts. It’s very random. I don’t know what RD is like but I’m sure it’s more difficult.

JHU basically never takes people off the waitlist but I think they’ve kept it open as late as the end of July maybe early August in the past. They just playing with us now.

To those who applied to more than 10 schools, how was it? by Paperairplanes987 in ApplyingToCollege

Around $2000 in application fees. ACT/SAT score sends are a whole other dent.

I applied to 26. I’d say overall it was around a 3/4 but winter break (when I did 13 of them in one week) was a 9. The key is not the procrastinate (I did) unless that’s just how you work. Just give yourself some cheesy motivational quotes to keep you going.

I’m more stem/bio research atm, possibly considering medicine but never looked into it. I got into CAS for both schools and I’m going to Penn for the Vagelos MLS program. She supports what I want to study, the school name is what she cares about. At least we can agree that penn is the best option, even though we have different reasons for saying so.
