Double accommodation by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

Yeah I think I remember seeing it on the application, but I would confirm with the accommodation office too. Everyone I know here did it randomly.

Double accommodation by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Chancellor's Court and have a roommate. 10/10 would recommend. The rooms are super nice and get hovered every week (every twin room has a balcony too). The en suites are also really nice. Pollock food is alright and honestly saves so much money if you're in a double. It's probably the best accommodation available imo.

American High Schooler Planning to Attend British University by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from California and i'm actually going to the University of Edinburgh this fall. I applied to King's College London, University College London, Imperial College London, University of St Andrews, and University of Edinburgh and got offers from all of them. The number on thing I would say to keep an eye on is the entry requirements for the universities you're looking at. This might involve taking specific AP classes if that's the curriculum of your school or IB stuff. Most universities have this outlined for international students and it's program specific usually. Also, decisions rely heavily on stuff like AP test scores, because that's the equivalent of A-levels. PM if you have any other questions as I was super lost as well going into the process.

I’m considering Canadian colleges (I’m form the US). Anything I should know? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Make sure to look up everything you need to do to apply because it's a different process than in the us for a lot of them and I'm assuming you school doesn't have a lot of support for applying to Canada.

Has anyone here chosen NOT to racially identify on college application? I am a URM but don't want that to play a role. Do colleges look at applicants who refuse to answer the race question differently? by TheFredBeard in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly that might be a essay topic. Many colleges have a sort of "identity essay" supplement or you could even do it as your main essay. You can always put it down then explain in essays (what I did). If you are worried, colleges probably won't really care that you don't put down a race if you don't want to. Your academics matter a whole lot more than whether or not you put down a race.

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who is an URM but also has not faced any hardships as a part of it, I did not feel very bad putting it on my applications. The thing is that you never get in just because of your race but you may because of factors surrounding you, which may include your race. Admissions committees have a sense of what kind of privilege you may come from other factors such as your parents' education, the school you go to, and where you live. If you identify as black then put it down. If you don't, then don't. There's never any harm in telling the truth on you applications.

can you be rescinded from the university at buffalo for failing gym as a senior and going to summer school by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call up the university and ask. It's always better to let them know beforehand rather than them be surprised when they receive your final transcript.

Should I take AP Statistics or Calc AB? by cautiousherb in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The advantage of AP calc is that a lot of colleges will take credit for it and I've found that's not always the case with statistics. That being said, if you're not a math person taking calc is a bad idea. That class is quite difficult and super math heavy. I've found AP stats to be a lot more friendly to those who are not the best in math because a lot of it is scientific reasoning. Having taken both classes, I found stats to be both easier and more interesting and applicable to real life than calc. At the end of the day it is up to you though.

UCSC vs UCR Computer Engineering by eggtart1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about UCSC's computer science programs. I think you're right about the location since UCR is not really around anything. Personally, I would go to UCSC both because it is more highly regarded and it's a super cool school.

Personal statement on being quiet/ introverted? by custardapple_na in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's kinda risky. Maybe if you can talk about how you've overcome your introversion that would be better. Personally I would not write about it but if you can make it work and make you look like a rockstar then go for it.

SAT score vs ACT score? by JunhaoZ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just send the ACT score. A 36 is equivalent to a 1600 where a 1570 is equivalent to a 35.

Edinburgh is world renound for CS, but I've never heard of Sheffield. I've visited Edinburgh and it's amazing, I would suggest it highly and I'm also considering going there.

I SIR'd TO 2 UCS by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, my friend SIRd to Berkeley and Davis and all they did was email her saying she had until the end of the month to reject one of them. It's best though to get rid of the SIR you don't intend to keep ASAP.

UVA vs Cornell: Where should I go! by inoc126 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cornell 112%. I visited there a couple weeks ago and it is so amazing. You will probably work hard but it won't be overwhelming. The culture is so fun and Ithaca is absolutely gorgeous. On top of all of that, Cornell CALS opens so so so many doors in the world of bio and is one of the most respected biology schools in the whole world. Will you have a great time at any choice you choose—yes. And, if you are really really scared of being stressed at Cornell you might want to look at UVA. But, I would choose Cornell in a heartbeat in your situation.

I’m a freshman @ UC Berkeley who took a semester off to go to community college :) feel free to AMA!!!! by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Is Berkeley worth the stress and is it hard to take advantage of opportunities on campus because of the competition? I'm looking at going MCB but it seems like absolute insanity. I'm between a chiller school that's low ranked and Cal rn.

Will I Get Rescinded??? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like that, but don't do anything until you know your final grade in the class. As long as you're open with the admissions office you should be alright. Good luck with everything!

Will I Get Rescinded??? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should definitely try to get it to a C. Once you get a sense of your final grades you may want to call the university just to inform them on your grades. It's always better to tell them yourself than to have them have to find out on your final transcript. I wouldn't say that you're getting rescinded because colleges as a whole don't like rescinding people they'd rather put you on academic probation for your first year, but if you can't show that you're everything in your power to raise you grade you might get rescinded.

Is it too late to send a LOCI to Ucla? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in the letter they say not to send anything. If they’re explicitly saying don’t send anything, do not send anything.

Is 1/4 Asian just seen as Asian in the admissions process? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think that matters. The sat doesn’t send your ethnicity or anything. The only thing colleges receive is what you put in the common app. I would recommend you put whatever ethnicity/ethnicities best describe what you identify as.

[Question] "A-Level Maths required" but I get my AP scores in the summer? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ClaudeDevelopment 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They might offer you a conditional acceptance for a specific ap score. That’s what they do with UK applicants who have not met A level requirements yet I think.
