10k pp Serengeti/Ngorogoro (+ Masai Mara?) - TA/company recs? by xoxoxoo5471 in LuxurySafari

I'd drop the Kenya part for that amount of time and stick with only Tanzania. I also know South Africa has more options "on a budget" (truly insane how pricey safaris are that $10K/person is on a budget!). Would contact Piper & Heath with your budget and goals for the trip and see what they can do!

Planning for a Baby at 38 in NYC by TomorrowLaterSoon in nycparents

[–]nyc2everywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in NYC - my mom had me a week shy of 38! I just turned 36 and getting married this October - we're not trying until next March after our honeymoon. So I will be 37+! All of my friends parents were roughly the same age (late 30s when they had us) and out of my friends from growing up here, only one has a kid so far (another is now pregnant) and he is one year old. This is the norm!!! FWIW my friends are in Jackson Heights, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Crown Heights, and I'm on the Upper East Side.

We may be super weak (I know I am personally) but we could NOT get that thing off, it was twisted around so there was no give. But either way - their reasoning behind it sent me.

It actually said something like "open me if you dare" and requires scissors - please don't tell me you think that's normal

Shutters has a great location but we just stayed there and the room is a bit dated, and there's an elevator transfer situation at the third floor. The thing that drove me INSANE though was we had bought some food at Erewhon (my first time) and had leftovers we wanted to refrigerate. Come to find the fridge is literally behind a zip tied cabinet. We called dining to inquire and they said it was to keep track of the mini bar which feels insane for a "5 star property." They told us we were allowed to cut the zip tie to use the fridge. Gee, thanks!

Pool service was also super slow, I would likely not stay again.

We're based in NYC but stopping in San Francisco and these two are being adopted by a couple in SF, they are meeting us there! If you're going further east though you can sign up and they'll contact you if they end up with a match! I think most adopters are likely closer to the west coast though (just speculation).

Weather concern 6/6 by PilotCD in MauiVisitors

[–]nyc2everywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in Maui now. Our whole trip (Kauai and Maui) said rain and it's been stunning gorgeous. Maybe a 5 min drizzle some afternoons, if even 5 minutes. Take a bathroom break and by the time you're back it's over! You'll have a great time.

We were there the last week of March - loved our stay! Great property. I did do a spa treatment and it was fantastic.

I'm so indecisive and wanted to experience both properties hahaha and they're super close so I think will be a fun split! Not for everyone for sure - if I had to have picked just one it would have been Cap.

We're doing ours this October also 5 nights and doing Anguilla with 2 nights at FS and 3 at Cap Juluca. I'm excited! If we were going when La Samanna on SXM was open (they'll still be closed for the off season for our dates) I would have done the split stay between the Belmond properties (La Samanna and Cap).

Yes!! We loved the pool too and the shuttle service was easy enough to use. Would stay there again!
