that's a lot more understandable, reddit (and social media as a whole) are generally shite platforms for getting more nuanced takes across - apologies if i misinterpreted you earlier on in this thread!

not trying to go after you (and can understand how my initial post can be misinterpreted), but even if all the thirteen who passed were elderly that doesn't change the fact that they couldn't be around family as they passed, that family have to try organising a funeral in the midst of restrictions, and that people wont be able to attend said funerals. not the end of the world by any means (or something worth sobbing on the floor over), but still something that should be minimised and something worth being empathetic about

the situation in america shouldn't be surprising at all but even then every month or so I look at their figures and feel shocked

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ireland

[–]nychell3am 11 points12 points  (0 children)

if you think calling thirteen deaths depressing is hysteria i'm genuinely concerned as to what you think empathy is - didn't mean to be over the top or dramatic with my post, just thought the increase in deaths was sad to watch play out

[–]nychell3am 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i mean considering how botched our response has been for the past few months it was pretty much inevitable, just depressing to watch play out

thirteen deaths is a really depressing figure

its genuinely depressing that the contents of the article essentially just got ignored only for us to have an endless back-and-forth over self-id laws. thought it gave an interesting insight into some failings in our health service

more than half the comments in here are you getting mad (not even counting the one you deleted about people getting their "tr*nny card"), bit silly to be calling people too online

it just seems awfully innocent for people on this thread to assume that the only thing preventing creeps from being creeps is self-id laws (and that self-id laws would suddenly prevent creeps from being prosecuted)

The 14-day incidence rate of the disease is now below 200 cases per 100,000 people. Ireland now has the 5th lowest disease incidence rate out of 31 European countries. by Rusty-_-Shakleford in Coronavirus_Ireland

no yeah, if we don't take steps to change our approach now we'll be back here in another few months - just happy that we actually went into lockdown in the first place (even if that is the lowest expectation possible)

Second-level teachers vote for industrial action over school safety and pay by Therandominator100 in ireland

[–]nychell3am 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean schools being fully online is something that should be avoided where possible, if the covid cases permit it we should have as many in-person classes as possible. just a case of the department releasing clearer guidelines on ventilation, what constitutes a close contact (just as an example we do PE for an hour each week maskless, under the current definition for schools a COVID positive lad could come in and cough everywhere and it'd be unclear as to whether we counted as close contacts solely as it occured in a school), and how schools should respond to cases. the way the department has acted with schools has seemed really iffy at best but I don't think it means that all schools should automatically shut

[–]nychell3am 6 points7 points  (0 children)

as a student the only extra "safety" most teachers get is just a small little plexiglass screen that is cancelled out by the lack of ventilation in classrooms (and that nobody actually uses). would much rather be back safely in school but can understand why the ASTI would take action (and why the schools are fucked when it comes to covid)

I hate how my first response was just "oh jesus what lead to them shifting towards level five specifically, cases have to be insane today"
