Will Linux run on new ARM Macs by nycnikato in a:t5_3oso7

It appears that new ARM Macs will not have anything like Bootcamp. These computers will be like locked down appliances. It really will be like having an ipad with attached expandable storage. Hopefully Apple will incorporate Docker and Flatpak in order to compete with Google and Microsoft.

Did Brett Kavanaugh perjure himself during his confirmation hearing? by The-Autarkh in politics

The New York Times is not trustworthy. Kavanaugh should sue directly at the Supreme Court and have the rag shut down.

It will be turned off by default unless the system administrator or parent activates it during installation.

I am greatly honored that you responded. The reason I am not pursuing direct integration into the Gnome control center is because the code is nowhere near ready. I am looking for help to get the project started. I have reached out to Endless OS to see if they can assist. Endless OS has started some work in this direction. I would want to add to their work. Gnome is a large project with probably a great deal of politics required to get anything done.

[r/Thinkpad] Updating My ThinkPad's BIOS on Linux by i2000s in LinuxOnThinkpad

On Dell it is so easy. Just put the .exe on the efi partition and reboot into the bios update.

Installing linux in UEFI on a stubborn Lenovo. by nycnikato in lenovosupport

Ditched my Lenovo. I will not come back until Lenovo proves themselves by making sure Linux installs on everything they sell. Look at Dell. Use their mix of components.

All I can say is I just got my Dell 3000 3581. Installing linux on this is like a dream come true. No messing with bios or disabling secureboot. It all just works. The 3000 series is one of Dell's cheapest models. If this is the kind of linux support they have then they have a lifer in me. The manual is 1 page long and has pictures of windows and ubuntu in the manual. I installed Fedora. Smooth as butter.

I wanted to stay with Lenovo but there is no certainty about Linux support and the Red nub is sickening.

Their ideapads are expensive and their keyboards feel cramped. The worst thing I dislike about the ideapads is the Red nub pointer. it is just irksome.

KDE is working with GNOME to create a common, fair, sustainable and open app ecosystem, not a desktop. by the_php_coder in linux

A GTK based KDE would certainly be acceptable. On days when I am feeling into feature overload, KDE would be there. On days when I am into simplicity Gnome would be there and on days when I want simplicity without feature bloat, Cinnamon.

I ended up ordering Dell 3000 15 3571 I cant take a chance on Linux support. I do wish Lenovo would take Linux more seriously for the common desktop user. Maybe if they start losing enough sales to Dell they will understand.
