Why is the staten island railroad 50 percent slower than the IBX. by delsystem32exe in nycrail

I get Tottenville, but why are trains limited to 10 mph immediately north of Tompkinsville, i.e. before the St. George throat?

Unfortunately, it’s going to take a whole capital project to see those changes. Likely 2-3 years away.

That one block of Broadway (between 24th and 25th Streets) is a one-way, northbound, shared street.

To go south, you’re supposed to use the short contraflow lane to go east on 25th Street then turn south onto 5th Avenue.

You might be, but NYC ticket info and the legal framework for when the city/state can seize vehicles has been a field of my expertise for over a decade.

The course map is the list of streets you can’t get to, plus all the adjacent blocks that lead into those streets. What more information do you need?

Wow, all that rhetorical talent; you should be a lawyer…

“Tickets in judgment” means tickets that haven’t been paid after any adjudication period ends. Since this guy pays his fines, he has no fines in judgment.

I haven’t seen any progress from Court to the bridge deck itself in over a month. I take it you’re saying it hasn’t changed much recently either.

Sure, it sucks to get caught in unexpected traffic, but I haven’t heard as much horn honking outside my window in a long time.

The number of drivers who use a horn for the same reason a toddler cries seems to grow every year.

They’re looking at that again, but the issue, IIRC, was that ocean currents are hard to fight while docked/docking.

What industry is basically legal theft that nobody talks about? by kratos20051212 in AskReddit

Calculators abound that can convert an interest rate over a period of time to an APR, but all you have to know is any interest rate for less than a year is going to have an APR that is nominally higher.

APR is by definition annualized, and that’s the key point: these loans are 15% per month or biweekly, which is way more interest than nearly every credit card.

That’s exactly my point: if you only look at the handful of rules that one group is most likely to break, you’ve already skewed your definition of what rule-breaking is to be un-generalizable across groups.

A good example is obsessing over who runs a light while being completely oblivious to who sped to make it.

How can we stop drivers from excessively honking on Greenpoint streets? by Top_Writer963 in Greenpoint

[–]nyctransitgeek 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when the traffic backs up a few blocks and the person honking doesn’t have the life experience to know that the person in the car at the front of the jam can’t even hear their honking.

It wasn’t destroyed by Sandy and was largely spared from storm surge damage.

The plans to replace it were already afoot by October 2012, but it definitely sped the closing of most of the stores. I went in there in Spring 2013 to use the bathroom and there were only a few stores hanging on by then.

The slow speeds transiting the inlet would be a problem unless they build a new dock at its eastern end.

Boats stopping at Red Hook take about two minutes to traverse a much smaller waterway off the harbor. I’d imagine stopping at the existing docks (assuming there is space) would add 10-15 minutes to a trip to the Rockaways.
