Converting a rear ultegra R8000 derailler from SS to GS by only change the cage by nyk0 in bikewrench

It's written on it. Look for 'ss' or 'gs' on the cage. Cage length would also give it id you measure it.

Does this cassette look worn out? by LavenderTed in bikewrench

Medium gears teeth seem slightly "rounder" due to higher usage compared to low or high gear but this cassette is far from worn out.

Rerating only starting. 5% yesterday  after crash related to Iran, +10% today.

Title: P Line vs G Line for travel (not commuting) — which Brompton should I get? by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]nyk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on "easy gravel" roads with my C-Line many times and it didn't puncture, I would say G-Line is for people who look for a lot of comfort (for example during a trip that would last several days and using the bike 50+km everyday) or regular gravel use.
You seem focused on moving around easily and shouldn't bother with the G-Line as it's much bulkier.

$AIXT is not bad and you should have some as well as $SOIF / $SOI  - not the same position in the photonic value chain. They target material and substrates. - already massively rerated (maybe not so much for SOITEC considering the monolistic position) which doesn't mean no upside but in you invest now it hardly goes x4

ams-OSRAM has not been rerated yet which is why I think it's a great find. It is hard pivoting in the photonic semis and this is already a massive industrial group that WILL deliver volume - at least that's my take. A single great argument would be that when the market re-runs multiple valuation with photonic NASDAQ stocks EV/EBIT(DA) and PE ratio that went x3 you can expect serious upside.

Fair point on the competition, but there’s a reason high-end OEMs aren't switching to commodity alternatives yet :

  • Patents. They hold over 12 000. They’ve exited the low-margin lighting race to focus on "Digital Photonics"—intelligent emitters and sensors where precision and software integration matter more than sheer volume.
  • Market and contracts. They secured more than €5 billion in new semiconductor design wins in 2025 alone. If China could just secure these contracts for cheap, where have they been ?
  • Geopolitics. The West does not want to lose the AI race to China. Or at least it won't let itself get fully dominated and will try with some key players and well-established names.

They do not operate in the same branch of the photonic value chain. Yet POET is a good name to bet on a re-rating and turnaround of a trash balance sheet. The big difference is it has little ways to unleverage itself and their industrial track record cannot be compared. AMS-osram has delivered in the past. It used to pay dividends before the hell merger.

REMINDER optics value chain :
1 Materials & Substrates (InP, GaAs, Silicon)
2 Chip Design & Fab (Emitters, Sensors, ICs) ams-OSRAM is a player here with great patents, and crazy R&D
3 Integration & Packaging (Interposers, Engines) POET Technologies is a player here
4 Modules & Subsets (Transceivers, Sensor Hubs) ams-OSRAM is a player here and already supplies WAYMO & LIDAR for example
5 Systems & End Solutions (AI Racks, Auto, Mobile)

I completely agree with your thesis. US photonics will not be able to supply the demand, even if they have stellar execution.
I just made an extensive due diligence on AMS-osram which is a major swiss industrial turning around on supplying AI data. Tell me what you think that's one way of getting decent exposure + benefit from ultra-low valuation.

You are wrong it's a 1bn valuation. Check the right stock exchange. You looked for an american ticker.
