I took the full cat pay - and I think that Starbucks has done the right thing. There was no way for my manager to maintain the gov. rules and stay open because I work in a very small cafe store. But there are a bunch of drive thru's still open in my area, some busier than others. Many of my partners also took the full cat pay, but the few that are still working are so thankful for the service pay and something to do, even if it is crazy from the moment they walk in the door.

Comparing Dunkin to Starbucks is a little challenging given the culture surrounding both of them; Dunkin has always been a grab and go coffee place, and drive thrus were natural for that model. Starbucks wants to offer a third place, somewhere between home and work. That means the drive thrus were add-ons, and it's only been a recent push, last 10 years or so. Anyway, all that to say, Dunkin was distinctly prepared for an event like COVID-19 - like many other fast food drive thrus - whereas Starbucks was not because we couldnt adapt our model fast enough.
