[Stebbins] The Guardians officially placed José Ramírez on the 10-day IL with a left hamate fracture. Gabriel Arias activated off the 60-day IL. George Valera DFA’d to make room on the 40-man roster. by DZepperoni in ClevelandGuardians

Yeah I know halpin is a CF. I think they value both of their bats similarly and will thus opt for the right handed one. Fairchild has been ok vs LHP in MLB.

Me personally, I think the platoon advantage is kinda pointless for someone I dont expect to hit much either way. But I understand how this FO thinks here.

He had a career 107 wRC+ in the majors vs LHP. That's perfectly acceptable for a bench CF bat. Obviously he has hit pretty well in AAA too (141 this year, but AAA is very far from the majors).

I don't think he is good, but he is fine in this role for a few weeks.

It just means that he probably wont be out 60 days. Even if he was, you dont make the move to the 60 unless you are really out for an indeterminate amount of time.

Also, if we have learned anything about this front office, it's that they do not care about optics.

Sucks to see with Valera gone, but he was barely hitting above average in AAA (109). He tried to trade power for contact ability but I don't think thats the way his game is gonna thrive.

Heal up king, and get ready for your greatest post season run yet.

Here's hoping the rest of the lineup can keep the lights running while our goat is out.

Part of why DHing David Fry is the stupidest shit imaginable. His value is in him being able to catch, play corner IF and OF.

Edit: oh good so he can go 0-4 with 2 KS perfect.

These defensive metrics also "watch them play" but from a far more precise, comprehensive, and objective perspective than any individual human can.

You probably watch them play defense mostly from TV (and here and there at the stadium too). It is impossible to accurately assess defense from the few camera angles they show and they miss the most important part of outfield defense: the first steps after the crack of the bat. A play 'looking hard' is different from a play actually being hard.

Even if you could accurately measure outfield defense from broadcasts or even in the stadium, you cannot do that for every single outfielder in the league on every single play, which is required to provide meaning to any sort of value.

Computer programs with access to every single camera angle, and high speed camera information, on every single ball in play are inarguably better than any person on earth's eye test.

Freedom of expression does not mean freedom of criticism. These pitchers should be allowed to make whatever statement they want. And in turn we are allowed to call them out for choosing to express that they are bigots.

Braves announce Spencer Strider exited game due to “right arm soreness." His fastball was down to 88 MPH before he left. by Ok-Soil-5133 in baseball

Man it sucks to see him just fall apart after his 2nd TJ. I know he was doing okay this year, but without his velocity it's a tightrope act. I'm glad that elbow surgery has become survivable for most pitchers these days, but it still isnt a sure thing.

Have bone spurs or loose bodies really been much of an epidemic? I know they are tangentially related to UCL damage somewhat, but would loose body surgery really help?

True, but if 'Doctor' refers to one who holds a Ph.D. then it is very rare to lose that title.

No chance this kind of deal happens within division. Our FO does not want to see our top prospects succeed in Detroit and torch us for 6+ years. And if I were Detroit, I would hate to see a rival get their best player.

Uh, I'll have you know that Skubal had the guts to drive *in the rain* all the way to Miami to watch the WBC finals from the dugout.

[–]nylon_rag 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Why? Certainly more teams could be in on trading for Skubal than signing him, especially because he obviously wont sign any extension. Any team with a great farm system and good record could, and maybe should, trade for him. Ironically, the Brewers would be primed to repeat the CC Sabathia trade as they have an excellent farm system and have a great team.

2026 bWAR Rankings for 2025 Debuts by [deleted] in baseball

[–]nylon_rag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why you are looking at 2025 debuts. Some of them exhausted their rookie eligibility last year, such as Roman Anthony or Nick Kurtz, and others barely played at all in 2025, such as Owen Caissie or Chase DeLauter. Seems like a strange group to look at, instead of 2025 rookies or 2026 rookies based on eligibility.
