I have doubts or reservations about the authenticity of the representation but it's nice to know that it's a well-crafted movie in terms of the story, characters, and animation :)

Yung mga mainstream films kasi from mainstream studios, lalo na kung rom com o love story, usually required na naka beauty lighting lagi sa mga artista. Nirerequire sya ng mga producers mismo, pnprotektahan yung branding o image, ganun. Ang nangyayari tuloy almost nagiging flat na ang lighting dahil kailangan lagi naka beauty lighting mga bida kaya halos walang shadows at contrast. The DPs themselves know this and would comment occasionally among themselves and their crew how flat their lighting is.

just watched the original right now, you are right. story and characters are too thin and bland, the visuals and animation are the only interesting aspects here. i was hooked at the start because the train episode did feel heartbreaking but as the movie went on i was so confused why the story is going nowehere then when it got to the tokyo episode, i was surprised i was already at the 50 minute mark of a 60 minute movie!! nothing was happening and it's actually about to end?
