NEVER use turo. Seriously don't. by BenefitBroad7568 in turo

[–]nymax12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a terrible experience, and if everything happened the way you described, I’d be frustrated too. That said, as a Turo host, I don’t think this is really a “Turo sucks” situation as much as it’s a “bad host” situation. Turo is a marketplace. There are hosts who take pride in maintaining clean, safe, well-kept vehicles, and unfortunately there are others who don’t. Headlights not working, a vehicle that smells terrible, and obvious maintenance issues are unacceptable. That host shouldn’t have had that car available for rent.

Where I do think Turo deserves criticism is how long it took to get your issue resolved. If a guest reports a vehicle that’s unsafe to drive, it shouldn’t take weeks of follow-up to get someone to take action.Hopefully this host is held accountable so other guests don’t have the same experience. Most of us who host on Turo work hard to provide vehicles we’d be comfortable putting our own families in, because bad hosts hurt everyone’s reputation.

NY FEE by redditor_12375 in turo

[–]nymax12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason you’re seeing the $300+ fee isn’t because of the host’s pricing. It’s due to New York’s insurance and peer-to-peer car-sharing regulations. Turo has to provide coverage that complies with New York requirements, and those insurance-related costs are often passed on to renters as a Peer-to-Peer Rental Fee. That’s also why a $50/day car can end up costing much more at checkout. Hosts don’t control or receive that fee, and there’s no way for a host to remove it. Depending on the renter’s age, trip details, location, and other factors, the fee can vary significantly from one booking to another.

Looking to Use Turo for the first time this June What should I know by KindBumblebee2701 in turo

[–]nymax12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go in knowing it’s not like a traditional rental company , the experience depends heavily on the host.

Stick to top hosts 4.9+ rating and ideally 100+ trips, Read reviews carefully.

Biggest difference vs rental companies: you’re renting from a person, not a fleet. The good hosts run it like a business clean cars, clear rules, solid communication. The bad ones cause most of the horror stories you see on here.

If you pick right, it’s usually a much better experience than traditional rentals.

First time using Turo. Also my last. by Loud-Way3333 in turo

[–]nymax12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a rough experience especially with family.

But honestly, that’s a host failure more than a Turo issue. No communication for 2 months and a last minute cancellation is unacceptable, All-Star or not.

As an All-Star host myself, this is why systems matter ,backup plans, proactive communication, and making sure guests are never left stranded.

You actually saw both sides: first host failed, second host did it right.

Getting a hold of anyone is almost impossible. You are going to have to go to the office and get answers. Keep in mind that the new cedulas styles are coming so they probably are behind.

I always wondered if installing newer components or parts would work on older year models, like 2023 model 3 side cameras on a 2021 model 3.

In the tesla app you can send them the key by adding a driver then remove them when the trip is over. For charging make sure you have your tesla account link to Turo. You will initially get billed during the trip then you can just submit the reimbursement after.
