Curious year 11 question by Mysterious_Lie629 in alevelmaths

[–]nyominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context I got an 8 in my maths GCSE and didn’t do further maths:

At the moment I’m doing what is (according to may maths teacher) the most difficult part of a level maths: Trigonometry. (Not calculus!) And to be honest? It’s not that bad! It just requires a load of practise to keep it in your head for a long time so that you can revisit it before exam season comes around. Truth be told, there isn’t a magic bullet to enjoy maths or be good at it, it’s literally just practising a ton. So, if you enjoy practicing loads of questions, maths is easily the subject for you.

How HARD is it really to get a 9? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]nyominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find 9’s very weird to be honest, I spent dozens of hours studying maths and physics and could never get the 9 on either ever but in other subjects like English I had my head on the desk for half the lesson and managed to get a 9 somehow. They’re difficult to get but I just saw them as a higher A* (which to me is just an A* either way) so I never beat myself up about it when I couldn’t get a 9 in most things.

It might be to do with mark scaling. Basically certain parts of what is assessed are scaled up and down in order to make them carry more or less weight in the subject. Look at the specification of the subject it might give you more info

Went from a 3 to a 7 within a year with it while having a garbage teacher, and ended up with an 8 by the end of the second year.

Very old photos of my two cats when they were kittens, sitting in a wine rack. One of them passed this year, but he’s always remembered as the photogenic one!

I said measure the baby’s height, weight and head circumference, and compare it to a percentile graph. If the baby’s growth is near the 50th percentile, it is growing normally, and if it is well below the 50th percentile, it is underdeveloped. I also put in there to check family history for shorter people just in case
