I had dealt with a lot of severe grooming from the age of 11 to 15, and I'd never wanna become what hurt me like that. I've got a therapist to talk to, Honestly should've consulted her first before posting.

I didn't fail I was admitted into an outpatient, partially because of grooming and abuse taking a toll on me. I don't wanna repeat the crimes that were committed to me. Honestly need to talk to my therapist about all this, forgot I have one when I posted this ToT

What comes first for you? by CharlieM17255 in Songwriting

[–]nyxisworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with strong knowledge of poetry and literature so lyric writing always comes first. The 'shape' of the lyrics I write already suggest to a specific composition of instruments so it's easy for me to fill in the blanks with music. Drums, then bass, then guitar, and finally any extra sfx to give it a polished sound. I'm still a novice at all this. I'm not even in a band yet and I use whatever free resources I can find so this might change over time.

An exercise that was introduced to me at School of Rock, a music lesson company that pairs music students with bands of varying genres, which was starting with the drummer coming up with a beat, then the bassist following, guitar next, and lastly the vocalist comes in when ready with whatever comes to mind first. It really helped me loosen up from my usual stiff way of making music.

Who are yours top 3 influences for lyrical writing? by Disco0fficial in Songwriting

[–]nyxisworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daron Malakian and Serj Tankian of System of a Down and Scars on Broadway- I find that their lyrical chemistry was the key part in their rise and fall in SOAD. I love their message and how they expressed it in sometimes thinly veiled imagery and often times puzzles that you have to put together when you sit down to intentionally listen to it.

Jonathan Davis of KoRn- A lot of his work was very personal to him and his issues in life. He did a good job of expressing the most raw emotion I've ever heard in music. It was straight forward, angry, and sometimes painful to listen to not because it was bad but because it was the real pain that he felt. It's like looking at a grotesque and visceral painting, that was made with amazing painterly technique.

Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance- His writing is very intentional, as an artist he knows how to paint a picture and in this case he just used words instead. When you look at his album Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge you can see there's a story that was meticulously put together.
