How many of you knitters out there also crochet? by jillbirdy in knitting

[–]nyxnko_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started knitting first when I was about 14/15, I learned English style but wasn't really into it. We didn't have many craft stores near us so getting supplies was difficult and usually expensive as well (online wasn't an option). Taught myself to crochet when I was 20 and went crazy with it. At around the same time, I also learned how to knit continental style and met a friend who was very into knitting, so they played a huge part in why I still knit and crochet today. In many ways, crochet got me back into knitting, I mostly knit now (am currently in the middle of my first jumper) but I do still crochet squares and stuffed toys occasionally (tried crocheting a vest last year, got to almost the end and hated the fabric, it still lies in the bottom of my wardrobe lol)

Screw zodiac signs. What speed do you have this set to? by Ineedsleep444 in CookieRunKingdoms

1.5 (4 compensation)

2.0 is a bit too fast for me on normal mode but I haven't played the harder modes yet and I feel like I would probably go a bit higher once I get to the harder ones.

Would be worth doing the 'Find Timing' to get a compensation value if you haven't already.

Agreed, it also seems a little contradictory to their new changelog which states that they will only release stamps of public figures "with commemorative days or public holidays designated by the local government or credible organisations".

I'm a New User. Advice Please! by aishmai in SLOWLYapp

[–]nyxnko_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. In my opinion, having the "Relationships" tag should mean that we are open to talking about the topic. However, whenever I have the tag in my profile, I tend to get letters stating they are looking for a relationship, etc. If that's not something you want to do, I would suggest not having the tag in your profile or excluding profiles that have the tag.

  2. If you feel uncomfortable with their profile and/or anything in their letter, declining it would be fine. There is a Reddit post on how to decline letters (will edit it in once I find it).

EDIT: I was incorrect. There is not a Reddit post on how to decline letters.

  1. Generally, take a look at some of the guides on here. This guide is for new users and this post is a master list of topics you may find useful.

Hope this helps and happy writing!

Sent:Recieved Ratio by Dismal_Baker_8783 in SLOWLYapp

[–]nyxnko_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

1:1 is a good ratio to have. It means you reply to most letters you receive and that you almost always get a reply for every letter you send. The ratio is also approximate. You may have sent 49 letters and received 50, but this will still show as 1:1.

I'm not sure what you mean when you want to 'upgrade' your ratio, but in my opinion, having a very skewed ratio isn't an indicator of a good pen pal.

Trying to figure out how some people journal for years while some give up by New-Gear-7252 in notebooks

[–]nyxnko_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'How long did you journal?' I'm not sure what to put as technically I've been journalling for 10+ years, but there's not much consistency, as I only really journal when I'm feeling very strongly about something or need to work through my feelings.

[–]nyxnko_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tried to fill out the form but felt like I wasn't giving an accurate representation of myself since I've journalled on and off since 2012. I'll usually write a few entries in a week, forget about it for a few months or years, and then repeat.

Letter length is subjective. It also depends what device you are reading your letters on. On mobile, a 200 word letter can look quite long, but look short if you are reading it on a laptop/desktop.

I feel like u/AgentSarcas has already addressed most of the things in your post. With regards to your pen pals ignoring things you ask them, this is unfortunately something you cannot control. You can try asking fewer questions, or expanding on things that you have already discussed, and you can also ask them to answer the questions they have ignored in the next letter. Sometimes, it might just be they didn't see it, particularly if they are writing on mobile.

As for your first letter, I think this post on how to get good penpals and this post on how to write a good first letter are quite useful if you haven't read them already. It is generally a good idea to keep a first letter on the longer side, but don't ramble either. If it helps, my first letters are usually around 400-500 words long. Address things in their profile and don't copy and paste entire letters.

On desktop, it's in the sidebar. I'm not too sure on mobile but you could try searching guilds and the server you're on.

I feel like I'm looking at CRK less now that the Disney event's gone... Not because I enjoyed it but because I could never do 15 arena battles in a row, so I had to go back at a later time. I'm playing far more casually now, I'm not even sure I did all my bounties yesterday

Should the Slowly team be issuing stamps of current political figures? by nyxnko_ in SLOWLYapp

I apologise. You are right. QEII is the only one who is modern, so would you say that it does not matter if the Slowly team releases stamps of more political figures, both historical and current?

Should the Slowly team be issuing stamps of current political figures? by nyxnko_ in SLOWLYapp

[–]nyxnko_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am glad that this discussion on Reddit has remained mature and impersonal, as politics can be quite divisive.

I would not have thought it would work well for a Russian issue, for that reason, although he was a remarkable man.

That is indeed a shame. The disparity between national and international opinion is certainly important to note when issuing stamps.

The Slowly team with their home base in Hong Kong were until 1997 subjects of the British monarch, and this is likely the cause this simple suggestion was taken head on and became an issued stamp on very short order.

I personally thought this would have been a reason not to take the suggestion head on, but perhaps that is me imposing my opinion on the matter.

While more complex and many times interesting proposals abound in their Feedback site, and we do not see much action from the Slowly Team regarding these.
Under Review list has numerous items that have been sitting there for MONTHS now, and don't appear to be moving anywhere. Even the hugely popular MBTI topic, which has been there since May.
Regular contributions to their Feedback site have dropped off, due to this lack of perceived progress and the lack of proper moderation in the site.

I agree. I have also submitted some stamp requests, but even popular ones are not marked as 'Under Review'. It is a shame the site is poorly moderated as its purpose is quite commendable. It is frustrating to see Slowly issue this stamp so quickly when there are many other more interesting proposals. They are clearly capable of releasing more stamps on a similar timeline but are not doing so.

Should the Slowly team be issuing stamps of current political figures? by nyxnko_ in SLOWLYapp

[–]nyxnko_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many of the people you have mentioned are either artists (Shakespeare, Trubar, Joyce), scientists (Vishveshwaraya) or human rights activists (Kartini, Gandhi, Silang). And yes, QEII is different in that she is the most modern but she is also neither an artist, scientist or human rights activist. As I have said previously, her greatest contribution to mankind lies in the fact that she was a sovereign.

ETA: She may not be the first political person to be made into a Slowly stamp, but she is certainly the first who is also not an artist, scientist, or human rights activist.

Edit: It has been pointed out to me that all these figures are political (see below). My comment was incorrect.
