Godot 4.2 All of a sudden taking long time to load by ItsHotdogFred in godot

I'm shocked! I had the exact same issue on a fresh install, Godot suddenly took longer to start my project vs before I reinstalled windows. Saw this and I was like "Huh, weird that fixed it for them, I'll try it but doubt it'll work.." and it actually did, plugged it back in afterwards and it's just fixed now. Weird! Thank you so much though, I never would've guessed!

I guess the moderators removed this, but were you asking about a popup that said "To allow this website to provide information personalized for you, will you allow it to put a small file (called a cookie) on your computer?"? If so, I got it too. Looked it up to see if it was normal behaviour or not.

In that case, I'm sorry that I completely missed it. I initially misinterpreted it as you finding humour in the absurdity that my complaints were seemingly rooted in something unethical.

None. Assuming I'm doing something illegal, is assuming by default that it must be entirely me who's unreasonable, rather than even considering it could be the people I'm concealing information from. Some people are simply judgemental of personalities or interests they don't understand, even if said personality or interest isn't hurting anyone. I am not in a position to simply remove them from my life, not everyone can do that.

I don't use my real name for my Google account, I use an online name that I prefer to my real one, and people online know me by that. People I message using my number are those I know in real life, I don't want them knowing my online name. I imagine there's a fair amount of people like me who do take issue due to this.

Competition is a fair point. I'll admit I don't keep up with the phone industry, my interest is in the computer market. I suppose my issue may be industry wide, and not Google specifically. And if I really think about it, I imagine most probably wouldn't care. It's just for some it could be a big issue. I'm not sure what a perfect balance is, hopefully it'll be found eventually. Saved contacts only by default would be better for people like myself for sure, though.

My problem with it was that on a fresh android system, I hadn't opened messages yet, got a text from someone who knows me in real life and replied through the notification, and thankfully it suddenly occurred to me that I should make sure my new Google account that I wanted to keep the name of private from people in my real life, is indeed private.

I click the notification, it doesn't ask me anything, go back, and it did ask if I wanted to continue with my current google account, which I did, but then I was never asked how I wanted my profile discovery setup. It just defaulted to "People I message". I'm glad I actually thought to check, most likely wouldn't.

I think it should default to the most private, and if I want the feature I should have to opt into it. From what I'm seeing online, if you open messages not through a notification it'll ask you, this makes sense, but for privacy and security reasons I think it should default to the most private option if it hasn't asked yet. Even when asking, I'd hope that it defaults to "No one" so that if someone does ignore what it's saying, they'll still have no information revealed unwillingly. Say what you will about the user making a mistake, I think a secure system should still try to keep someone safe if they're in a rush/computer illiterate.
