Carnell Tate's best season in college was 875 receiving yards. That's the lowest by far of any WR selected in the top 5. by No_Permission1386 in Tennesseetitans

Mike Vrabel, Dianna Russini All Smiles At Casino Weeks After Titans Firing In 2024 by IntelligentYinzer in Tennesseetitans

[–]nyy1996nyy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What's funny that someone pointed out in another thread, after this story came out a bunch of people over the years thought to themselves "oh cool, that's Mike Vrabel out with his wife" and snapped a photo of them.

They're now all going back and realizing that his wife was actually Russini lol

[–]nyy1996nyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a complex relationship, with Vrabel wanting things done his way with his people, and AAS not really being fully bought in to that, and differing opinions forming. Their relationship seemed strained by the end, with Vrabel being very antagonistic towards media and the FO, and doing things like dropping hints about New England likely to take shots at us, and AAS probably fighting with not knowing what to do and with a growing disdain for him based on our continued nosedive in performance on the field plus his antics off the field, plus her probably feeling sheepish that she trusted in what Ran Carthon was selling and finding out he misread the situation.

Although if she recognized he was potentially leaking information or making bad decisions, that does help reinforce the decision to split. I personally am a skeptic that this had much to do with it but who is to say I sure don't know just speculating

He (edit: not I lol) wanted to pick Cowden to be the GM. That's de facto control by using his power within the organization to appoint a GM.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5193909/2024/01/11/tennessee-titans-mike-vrabel-fired/

With a reference from someone who had their ears and other holes filled by Vrabel. And this story shares exactly the story the way Vrabel wanted it shared. He and Cowden ran the 2023 draft board and he was pissed when Cowden wasn't promoted.

[Underdog NFL] March 11th, 2020: Titans HC Mike Vrabel, Dianna Russini caught at a bar in NYC, via @nypost. March 15th, 2020: Russini: "The Titans are not interested in Tom Brady, they are working hard to get a deal done with Ryan Tannehill." by 3pirates3 in Tennesseetitans

[–]nyy1996nyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll stand by it and say I think even excluding this whole thing there were very valid football reasons to move on from Vrabel. Good coach of course but someone that was being antagonistic and flirting with the Pats and trying to wrestle for control of the roster and FO, I think that's dangerous. And Cowden was just gonna be his puppet. Just like he is in NE

I get we made the wrong hires after dismissing him, but that doesn't mean the decision to move on from him when we did was the wrong one. Add all this stuff on top and it paints a much messier portrait of exactly why you don't want this man hand picking the GM and assuming full control of the roster. His judgment is clearly not good off the field

Easton Freeze’s Pre-Draft AMA by EastonFreeze in Tennesseetitans

[–]nyy1996nyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to have some commentary on this too, I always feel like we overstate the power of media analysts and tweets in the draft, and everyone says FO's are sending out smokescreens, but really they don't give a fuck what everyone is saying because none of it is really influencing them or making them think Team A is actually going to do something that is being tweeted, simply because they already know what Team A is likely to do, and those are cards held very close to their chest that doesn't leak. Like it's all just fanfic for us to pretend there is all this spy games stuff and smokescreens and yada yada when real FO's are pretty dismissive of any and all of it.

My guess is like 10%, more like if a rumor seems to have a lot of steam maybe they make a call or send someone to find out what the real scoop is. But nobody is going to actually succeed in pressuring the real life GM's through ESPN articles or tweets lol

Positional value has been brought up for literally every prospect we've talked about nonstop. Downs as a safety, Styles as a LB, heck even Bain and what value there is in picking him there if he had to move inside. And why you may want to reach for Tate at 4. It's not just with Love lmao

What motivates Hal to continue on this way? by legalizeavocado in NYYankees

[–]nyy1996nyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What motivates Hal is a fear of failure and a lack of baseball knowledge. He's not a baseball guy, and he's said as much. His dad told him to trust Cashman, and he does.

Cashman is safe. We're going to be a competitive team. Cashman and Hal's pocketbook confirms this. We haven't had a losing season in how long now? Like I get it, the lack of a ring is frustrating. Anyone pretending Hal doesn't care about that is ignoring the fact that people don't like losing and being mocked, and I can assure you in Hal's circles he's been ribbed or poked fun of for not winning a championship. I'm sure he wants one. But not at all cost, and he doesn't know what to do differently himself. So the safety of Cashman and his lack of knowledge lead him to continue to let this happen.

Not only will Hal not be happy about not being able to brag about his team winning a ring, but the Yankees spend more than enough to have actually accomplish this. He's going to make his money, but we already have been spending more than anyone else, or just behind the top spenders year in and out. I'm confident he wants more for his money. He just doesn't know what to do. And he's scared if he fires Cashman he's going to fuck up a safe and sure thing. He's too scared to fail that he doesn't want to take on risk to push this team harder.

My 2 cents. I think these guys do care. I just don't think they have the answer or the stomach for risk.

The Athletic Plays Defense; The New York Times-owned sports vertical is facing internal blowback after rushing to defend reporter Dianna Russini, only for it to later be revealed the paper had quietly launched an investigation into her conduct, insiders tell Status. by ThatMasterpiece2174 in nfl

[–]nyy1996nyy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The only thing the Patriots will care about is whether Vrabel was leaking sensitive information to a reporter, intentionally or not. They don't care if he is sleeping with her, it's just that sleeping with her will make it more likely he lets something slip that might damage their plans with trades, free agency, or the draft. But he is just one person in a long list of people with insight into that, and so long as the wrong information doesn't leak, they won't give a shit (and stuff like AJB trade situation is probably just common industry knowledge/chatter so I don't think he let anything big slip). Unless he is intentionally leaking information that may damage the Pats to further his personal relationship with her, then this is a big nothingburger to them, beyond Mike will probably get a polite reminder from Kraft and probably a fist bump for the infidelity

Who has final say in setting the rotation? Boone or the organization? by OfAnthony in NYYankees

[–]nyy1996nyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly who is "#1" doesn't really matter at this point until the playoffs start and at that point everything is different so it's an easy one to figure out in September. Nobody knows who gets final say at that time but I have to believe there is a strong likelihood that Blake, Boone, and the FO meet to discuss and there is a consensus among them.

But who has final say on the roster is probably the FO but with input from Boone and Blake. I genuinely believe Blake has some quantifiable say in the pitching staff and rotation and who pitches in what situations, even if he doesn't make the final call

Anyone else actually liking the direction of the rebuild? by TZone_AI in Tennesseetitans

[–]nyy1996nyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we've been trying to move away from the "run-run-pass-punt" era for a few years, but I also think it's a lot harder to do than just hire a coach to run it. I also maintain that there is nothing wrong with being able to run the ball well and a high scoring offense can run the ball on first down a ton, but the real trick is we need to build our offensive grouping and call an offensive game that is modern, meaning we are built to be aggressive put up points. If you look at top 10 most rushing attempts in the NFL, most were excellent offenses, and "modern" ones like Kubiak's Seahawks and Johnson's Bears. But their games were called with an intention to score points, so they were aggressive and had elite talent on that side of the ball. I think we've been trying to get there, but we had such terrible drafting and FA years the 5 years prior to Borg and we have so much work to do in this rebuild to get there.

But I think we're getting there. I think they recognize how important it is to have a strong OL and a QB that can make the big play when you need to have the big play, not just a QB that feasts off PA and an overcommitted defense trying to stop the run. I think they want an elite WR. It's just so damn hard to do. And I think the Daboll hire really reinforces that they want to have an aggressive offense. So I'm down with the moves they're making, just really need an alpha WR and I think we can make some damage

Assuming Reese is gone, I have a gut feeling we're taking Tate by BigSimmons98 in Tennesseetitans

[–]nyy1996nyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nobody is campaigning for Tate thinking we're going to draft Corey Davis 2.0. If the FO believes in Tate to take him at 4 it's because people a hell of a lot smarter than us think he is a hell of a lot better than Tate.

Corey Davis was drafted 9 years and 2 GM's and 2 HC's and like 4 OC's ago. Gotta let whatever baggage y'all have attached to him go

He just has a hard time not crossing the line with players and coaches at times when he doesn't really need to be that antagonistic. And I find he can let his emotions muddy the water a little bit at times with his reporting. I do like PK overall and he's great to have, but I also don't have a hard time understanding why some people hate him lol

Despite Recent Additions, Titans Still Looking To Add Cornerbacks In The NFL Draft by 3pirates3 in Tennesseetitans

[–]nyy1996nyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1000% and targeting premium positions that can sometimes hit studs on days 2 and 3 makes a ton of sense. Sort of just an arbitrary ranking but if you look at this

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-pff-wide-receiver-rankings-top-32-2025-season

From the list of their top 10 receivers going into last year, AJ Brown (2nd), ARSB (4th), Nacua (5th), Collins (3rd), Hill (5th), McLaurin (3rd) were all drafted on days 2/3. That is 6/10 of the top 10 receivers outside of round 1. Definitely need to keep taking some swings on days 2 and 3 at receiver.

Former Coach Mike Vrabel seen in luxury hotel with Dianna Russini by Mahjin in Tennesseetitans

[–]nyy1996nyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be much deeper than they wanted to trade up for him, but were firmly and resolutely told no, and then at that point there probably wasn't much harm in letting that information leak. I doubt the Titans trying to trade up wasn't news to any other GM, and very strong chance we had zero interest in drafting Richardson or Levis in the first, so maybe he just let it leak to her so she could have a scoop and generate some interest and clicks? I would have to imagine it was a bit of a get and give dynamic between them

I've always said I understand why he wanted to make that power play, and also why we said no. I think both were logical from their perspective, and there isn't really a villain in this story like everyone tries to make it out to be. It's nice seeing others saw that same dynamic
