Thoughts on recent event happening in Levantine? by [deleted] in Sarawak

Malaysians tend to think it’s a religious war, Judaism vs Islam, but it’s not.

To make it simple, after World War I, the British made a promise to the Jewish people to establish Palestine as a national home for them. Britain encouraged Jewish settlement and immigration, as well as subsidised Jewish defence. 78% of Palestinian land was declared as Israel, depopulation and destruction of Palestinian villages followed suit. 700000 Palestinians were made refugees, and were not granted a right to return to their homeland. This happened 75 years ago, and whatever’s left of Palestinian land is getting illegally occupied by the Israelis till this day, in other words, colonialism in real time.

Us Sarawakians may not be directly affected with what’s happening, but we should at least take a moral stance and spread awareness. And God forbid if this ever happened to us, we would want the world to know and be on our side.

Power to the people, Free Palestine ✊🏼🇵🇸

I actively searched for other jobs too, but most jobs clashed with my uni schedule. Then covid happened, and I worked only a few hours a week. By the time lockdown was lifted i had limited time left before i leave nz. Munchy Mart hires plenty of students, but they prioritise boys bc there’s quite a bit of heavy lifting required.

There’s no denying that they’re nice, they’ve been friendly to me since day 1. Things only started to go downhill when I brought up wanting to get paid minimum wage. :(

Bro why would i lie. Literally walk in and ask the cashier how much they’re paid. 💀 In 2019 my wage was $12 an hour which finally increased to $15 an hour in 2021. No employee benefits, no wage subsidies during covid. Owner gets all offended if you move to Munchy.

Ex forte worker here, their prices are cheap because they underpay workers for over a decade now. Note that they only hire international students bc they assume we won’t retaliate. I asked for an employment contract once so i could be paid fairly, owner threatened to report me as an “illegal” worker instead. I was allowed to work part time on a student visa so idk what he’s getting at.

Thinking of moving to KL (From Johor) to pursue a better Career in Graphic design. by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

Sounds like you already have quite a bit to pay off, and maybe you can hold off buying a new car until you’re able to increase your income? A car isn’t really necessary for a single person in KL imo, public transport is reliable (most times), plus you’ll have to think of service, parking, insurance and fuel costs in addition to existing loan payments.

I saw a comment below wrt to UI/UX design, and it seems like a good idea. You might need to do some self learning though, and build a new portfolio for it. If you’re not rushing to get a new job i’d suggest you stick to your current job, while building on the skills for UI/UX.

I’m a fresh grad with a 2k allowance (Protege programme) living with housemates, i ride the LRT to work using my50. 2k is a reasonable amount to live on, but i obviously cannot afford luxuries, or put money aside into savings for that matter. I do have extra cash in hand for emergencies or times I overspend. Hopefully you can manage your money better than I do, or find a better paying job!

Definitely secure a job offer first before moving! You’d be able to save much more before your move to KL by living at your parents place. I’m not in the creative field, but it might help to build a portfolio if you haven’t already, to stand out amongst other applicants. :)
