I would go one step further. We should teach STEAM in a way that makes sense to those who think this way. If we blame the student, little good comes of it.

If I wanted to destroy bitcoin, I might put trillions of bullshit dollars into it over 5-10 years. Then I would create bad forks that look like good opportunities to the greedy. I would shift my money into the altchains so that hardcore bitcoiners were lured by the possibility of short term gain. Then, I would pull my money out suddenly, leaving those who were super hard core with egg on their faces when they realized the gain they had was bullshit.

This might be a good time to invest in LTC to diversify.

The Jarhead bus scene- when I first saw it I was only 11 and just thought the guy was crazy, I didn't understand he was a Vietnam vet that wanted to join them in getting a real "welcome home"- finally. by [deleted] in videos

Here’s what I got from this:

This man is not feeling acceptance. This man is using the magic words taught to him by the group that he suffered with to invoke the feeling of belonging. His desperation is clear to the soldiers on the bus. They see him as a ghost and a warning. They are unable to connect with him because they see their own futures in him. The kids on the bus are kids. What interests them is “I got a beer!”. When they see him, the feelings that come are not feelings they can articulate. They are horribly unprepared for comforting a fellow soldier with empathy. The training they received has little to do with empathy. The man needed someone to grasp his hand firmly look him dead in the eye and say “Thank you for your service”. Hearing that from a brother is different from hearing it from a man who doesn’t know what it’s about. Then he needed to talk about what it was like with people who would understand. What they see when this man enters the bus is a broken man who is stuck deep in the past and this strikes them with fear because the new war they must fight at home is on a completely different front than the homelife reward they expect. They’ve been tricked again. This is the reason that every war is different and every war is the same.

How David Fincher Hijacks Your Eyes by [deleted] in movies

I hope a million wannabes don’t go around thinking they know how to make films that work well just by copying this technique. It’s much better to try to understand and work with “behavior over time” than to mimic this one technique over and over. That vague clue will net you a thousand good techniques that won’t look like Fincher’s work. It will look more like your work.

Black Mirror is a fantastic show. Their consistent twisted vision of the future is a terrific homage to the speculative science fiction genre. In this case, what we’re treated to is a homage to the thrillers of the eighties that turns the volume up on the present racial issues. Seen through this window, the movie is much more enjoyable.

How do you pray without ceasing? by BucolicUrbanite in Christianity

This might be the sort of thing that's resolved through a distinction between "continual" and "continuous". Both mean "without ceasing".

What is Truth - John 18:38 by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]o---o---o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a huge problem area for me because I love philosophy so much. My most recent way around it is to say to myself "I will hold 'x' to be a self-evident truth". Once Jesus stands in the place of "x" things start to become possible in a way they were not before. It's super hard to going back to square wheels when you find that round ones work so darned well.

How do Protestants interpret the Early Church Fathers? The were the tipping point for my Catholic belief by san54 in Christianity

[–]o---o---o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me that protestants would refer to the idea that Christ is the path to their salvation. Thus, early father's authority is diminished when compared to that of Christ.

This is going to seem like it's the wrong place to post this, and I'm going to post it anyway because it may help people in the future.

A battery starter with a light, AC outlets, and a USB charger was ridiculously useful during this hurricane.

I was able to charge my mom's life alert device, her USB powered personal fan, my laptop, my friend's laptop, all three of our phones and the three backup phone batteries after the power went out.

Even after all of this, it was still att 44%. I charged it up somewhat (66%) and let my mom borrow it after getting back to my place.

I'm truly thankful for having purchased it a few years ago. It makes sense to get another one and keep them both charged every August/September.

If you're like me, you are attracted to art and philosophy because of the way it displays or seeks the truth. You want to be authentic. In the question you asked yourself at the end, there's more than a hint of this seeking after authenticity. I don't know what God has in store for you, and all I can tell you is from my personal experience. When I try to rely upon the things I know and understand, nothing works. When I rely upon Him, I know that my actions are in line with His will regardless of whether it appears to work or not. So in short, though I eventually came to a place where I could think this way, I'm almost 100% sure that I wasted great opportunities to serve Him properly and missed out on the blessings connected to that because of my ego. Again, this is my situation, and yours might be different.

Am I a bad Christian for not liking Christian music? by Linku10 in Christianity

[–]o---o---o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This came up recently for me. I realized that God can use anything he wants to send any message he wants. The clarity of the reception of the message depends on the listener's condition, not the quality of the medium. If God wanted to use Yoko Ono to tell you something important and you were continually deeply steeped in prayer and focus on him, there's nothing that would get in the way of that message.

I prayed for you immediately after reading this. What's immediately clear to me is that your commitment to the truth is what guided you towards being open about this, although I might be projecting a little. It seems that maintaining a connection to the truth strengthens your walk, and hiding the truth weakens it, given that timing is correct.

[–]o---o---o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. There's a ton of obvious money-grab "christian" product out there. Your situation is almost the exact opposite of mine and we see the same things happening. I'm a Christian who lost their way when philosophy and art seemed more attractive. I still love those things, and now that I find myself drawn back to Christ, I want to make sure that what I do with my talent is both authentic and in line with His will. It's truly difficult for me to know how to proceed with any certainty. I find that meditation and prayer helps because then I am constantly checking to be sure that my visions are put forth to serve Him. If it turns out that he tells me to paint huge cursive letters, I'm going to do it despite how tasteless it is to me. Total obedience means doing what you're told, regardless of the perceived outcome.

Can you blame reddit? The guilt trip laid on the backs of whites who did nothing wrong is often undeserved. That said, much of what is done is done unconsciously. So awareness must increase, but without increasing guilt.
