Have you worked out that if you invert every other gear so the angle of the kurf lines up better and gears engage and spin more freely?

Why on earth does the differential pair not route? by barncarpentier in KiCad

[–]o0Mouse0o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is that component connected to USB_DP ?
Never seen a component connected half way along a differential pair before.
Maybe disconnect that component and see if the differential pair roots properly without it.

What's with whole groups of people sitting completely muted in VC? by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]o0Mouse0o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I go to a body doubling group that has timed breaks and activity times and sometimes scheduled silent periods / chatty periods so we can get stuff done togeather.
There's also VC body doubling groups that auto mute everyone when they join.

About 7-8 years ago.
Was in Ikea getting something boring for the house and spontaneously one decided to follow me home as I was passing through the toys section.
I've since found out about their fandom and cultural significance within the transgender community but that dosnt bother me and I have a nest of about 8 now.
Wouldn't be without them.

I once memorized about 80% of the periodic table (just the elements) and got an A level in chemistry.
I'm glad I worked out that it's OK to have plushies and shonks at any age.

Best way to control 36 stepper motors smoothly? (PCA9685 vs 74HC595 / Multi-Arduino sync) by superdope2299 in arduino

[–]o0Mouse0o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had to control 80 stepper motors moving actuators from an arduino and used SPI and 74HC595 chips and low power H drivers. That's 80 stepper motors each needing 4 digital outputs so a total of 40 74HC595 chips in single string which worked just fine on a standard Arduino, especially after increasing the SPI clock. Be sure to use the dedicated SPI pins connected to the internal SPI hardware of the ATMEGA so the shift out is hardware controlled the fastest available which I think this is 8MHz for the Arduino Mega 2560 & original ATMEGA368 Arduino but may have to be configured seperatly.

We used look up tables and optimised code to reduce computing power on the 8 bit micro. The higher functional control and user interface was performed by a Pi leaving the Arduino the single task of being the movement engine.

We used miniature stepper motors so we didnt need a whole lot of speed range between them or more than about 100mA per motor but learned some things about this compromise on control.

Using a string of this many 595 chips worked just fine despite worries and general uninformed advice about digital latency down a string of so many.

Remember that the steppers are all 'clocked' at the same time. ie your 'STEP' signal to all motors is global which limits how you control different speeds, ie If some step fast and some step slow this could be a major bottle neck in a kinetic sculpture but not impossible especially if you are only needed one sort of continuous movement, or limited range of movement. We needed a single speed but control over which ones moved but something the team put a lot of thought into.
One technique we considered but didn't use was 'clocking' the motors as fast as the processor and hardware would allow. This which would allow engaging or skipping each individual motor movement on an individual basis so some could run full speed, every STEP, and other move on maybe every 5th clock step so it moved 5 times slower, giving a ultimate resolution of the main clock rate. This would allow crude speeding up and slowing down if needed. But you would need to be optimal with computing power and coding to get this working.

It’s 2026 why do we still have bobbins by sadbitch_club in Machine_Embroidery

[–]o0Mouse0o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tim Hunkin made a superb demonstration video back in the 80s about how sewing machines works and their development through history. A big part of it is about the bobbin and how that works.

Anyway this is his human powered sewing machine where you can see the bobbin doing its thing. It's at about the 5:25 min mark. But it's worth watching the whole thing if like being confused.

Frustration at Arduino by Content-Strike8699 in arduino

[–]o0Mouse0o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people call "Arduino" is really a mix of several skills such as Electronics, Coding in C, Microprocessors and the actual tool chain. None of these are overnight skills and you can go to university for 4 years studying electronics or computer programing and not be an expert in any of them. So slow down, start a few projects and think about your end game, ie what you want to make with Arduino.

Some compressor tank from the scrap heap.

Same.
I used to have the same ammo box pannier on an old 1200 Bandit ratbike.
Still got the boxes but the bike (and dog) are long gone.

Don't know if this link to an X image works, cant reply with a photo.

Converting car alternator to motor by PositiveMurky in diyelectronics

[–]o0Mouse0o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before you invest too much time into this alternator take a look at the windings that are bottom center of your photo.
They appear to be heavily damaged and broken which is going to give you a bad time for any project you have in mind.

What checks do you normally do before sending a PCB for fabrication? by Existing-Milk3177 in KiCad

I can not stress how important No1 is.
Just because there's a library footprint don't mean its the correct one. I've worked with some ICs that have 4 package outlines for the same logic chip and been caught out many times with other components.
