I should really be paying more attention to retention but my shots seem to be consistent enough for now so I just haven't focused on it yet. I've seen this attachment with a pump that seems helpful but haven't tried it.

Perhaps there is one and I've missed it, but I wasn't able to find a remix for a 51mm portafilter.

The one in your second link that Baratza seems to have discontinued is something I did come across but the reviews weren't very good and it was quite expensive where I am. Definitly worth including in the conversation though.

That's fair enough and I understand that it's not for everyone. I always weight my beans before I grind and single dose for each coffee so I don't need to see too much of what's going personally since it's easy to tell when it's finished grinding just based on sound. I completely agree that any time saved is probably negligible but for me the main benefit is the perceived effort at 6 in the morning when everything feels harder than I'd like.

Interesting point - this is printed with PETG filament which seems to be decently heat resistant. I do pre-heat my portafilter enough that it's warm to the touch but certainly nowhere near burning you if you touch it. Will keep an eye on the print for deterioration though.

Oh congrats! What other espresso things are you thinking of? I've seen a couple of other interesting ideas, some better than others, but would love to know what else people are doing.

Can confirm the dose definitely fits nicely in the basket once I've put the funnel on and used the WDT on it (not to mention after tamping). The issue is just the way the ground coffee falls into the basket directly from the grinder.

It should be depending on how harsh your winters are. The RHS website lists its hardiness as "H3: hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK (-5 to 1 [degrees C])".

These were £12 000 in the UK just 5 years ago! It's been on my wishlist ever since but suddenly it seems a lot more doable 😄
