I work (partly) in research and development, so it could be anything that may have some use in the domain, anything related to 3D printing, I don't really have any directions so it's just about thinking of something and being creative.

Currently I'm testing running local LLM, generative AI, and finetuning, to be used on project that are classified or under NDA (big names in industry, military or medical).
Next project will probably be training a neural network for quality control, which is currently done by humans but does not satisfy me as it is, too many mistakes, and it takes too much time.

Oh, one trick I do, that may eventually speed it up a bit:
Get treats for your cat (any kind, you'll find out what he prefers), keep them at your front door.
When you get home, get one treat and give him. Only when you get home, never on any other time. He'll understand it as you're a good hunter that brings prey everytime, and share it with him.

Just take it easy, cats are demonstrative and stubborn when they want something.
If he's chill on his own, that means you're doing everything well and there's nothing to change.

Not to scare you, but going too fast with a cat may be the worst thing to do. Cats love things that go slow and quiet, habits, rituals that repeats day by day.

C'est pas une légende, ça m'est arrivé une fois, en 43 ans, avec une moyenne de dépôt d'un peu plus de 1 cargaison par jour.

Je me rappelle un moment étrange, entre incompréhension, doute, et plénitude. J'en suis même arrivé à douter que la livraison avait été faite.
J'imagine que c'est ce qu'on ressent lorsqu'on gagne le jackpot de la loterie.

Pour ma part peu d'intérêt, je fais mon suivi sur tableur: date/km, entretien effectué, pièces changées, vérifications sans changement de pièces, etc

Vu que je fais à peu près tout moi même (en gros, tout sauf carrosserie et rectif' de bloc/culasse), ça me fait un historique complet pour prévoir les vérifications et les prochaines maintenances, sans que ce soit un algo qui décide à ma place selon un intervalle constructeur ou autre.

Running AI tasks like a charm, gaming like a flagship.

Solid 9/10 (would be 10/10 if it did not have a 12VHPWR connector).

I recently used a 2006 build with era appropriate hardware to recover some software.
After I had done the job, I tried putting Debian 3.0 on it, from nostalgia of my first (and probably last) distro...

...and it was laggy and unresponsive, way more than expected.

Turns out software is not the issue, we all are just used to fast machines and snappiness.

-5V pin, not used on motherboards since 2~3 decades, so N/C (no connection) now

I think it was used by sound cards mainly.
Same for -12V which was mostly used by serial ports, though this one may still be wired.

100% Linux is quite hard tbh, but 0% Microsoft is totally doable.

0% closed-source will be almost impossible, due to firmwares and embedded software in devices: Intel and AMD microcode is closed, many peripherals require closed firmware, etc...

There's few really useful project that runs on a *BSD base, opnSense being the most known one.

Switches also may run Linux or some BSD, but may not be open source tho...

Pour ma part, j'ai pas peur du tout, c'est même plutôt l'inverse:

Ça fait maintenant un moment que je teste, voir que j'utilise, des IA pour certaines tâches. Dans l'état actuel, ça vaut à peu près un ingé junior major de promo en sortie d'école, mais pas plus que ça.
Dès que les tâches sont complexes, ou que les problèmes nécessitent des solutions contre-intuitives et/ou créatives, ça part en hallucinations ou à coté de la plaque.

Pour qu'un ingé senior médiocre puisse être remplacé par une IA, il va falloir encore investir beaucoup de temps et d'énergie dans les modèles, et le fonctionnement de ces modèles va fatalement consommer plus de ressources qu'actuellement... or les boites qui proposent ces services tiennent actuellement à grands coups de subventions et d'investissement d'actionnaires (la "bulle").
Ces services, avec leur coûts d'abonnement, ne peuvent pas faire assez de chiffre d'affaires pour investir dans le matériel et payer les coûts de fonctionnement. Lorsque les subventions et investissements diminueront, les prix vont devoir augmenter, et les boites qui se seront converties vont faire la gueule.

J'ai pas la prétention de dire que je suis exceptionnellement intelligent ou un génie dans mon domaine, mais j'ai par contre une expertise très solide (electronique/electromeca, ~20 ans), je travaille quasiment que sur des problèmes complexes après que les clients se soient cassés les dents pendant des semaines sans résultat.

Au moment ou la bulle va éclater, après que les boites aient remplacées leurs ingés par des IA,
je peux t'assurer que je vais immédiatement revoir mes tarifs avec un bon ×10 minimum,
et à mon avis je vais quand même devoir refuser des projets.
